The girls from the West swept both games of the county’s Girls 13 and Under Winter Basketball league, Wednesday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Balanced scoring by Tiana Apilado, Alyssa Miyamoto and Brandee Burton gave the Westside Girls under coach Dino Pabre a 29-22 edge over the Team Lihu‘e Girls in the opener of the double-header.
Melia Okura posted 12 points to lead Kaulupono to its 31-16 showing over the Kamikaze in the nightcap.
Apilado finished with eight points in the Westside win, followed by Miyamoto adding seven points and Burton finishing with five points.
Riana Ralston anchored the inside game for Team Lihu‘e Girls and finished with 10 points, followed by Marissa Martinez adding five points and Kaila Harris finishing with four points in the effort.
Following Okura, Lauren Lagoc pocketed six points for Kaulupono with Taegan Keep adding four points.
Kalia Shimabukuro and Kaelee Esposo topped the Kamikaze effort with four points apiece.
The girls next take the floor Saturday at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center where the Kamikaze go up against the Kaua‘i Baller Girls starting at noon, followed by Kaulupono and the Westside Basketball Girls tangling at 1 p.m.
There are five teams in the Girls 13 Under division and the public is invited to view the competition at no charge.
