PO‘IPU — Five Charity Tennis Doubles tournaments generated more than $6,660 over the 2010 calendar year.
Carolyn Caylor presented a check for those proceeds to the Kaua‘i United Way, Friday at the Po‘ipu Kai Tennis Courts.
Scott Giarman, executive director of the Kaua‘i United Way, was joined by Lynnette Medrano-Stine and Doug Sears to accept the contribution which helps the Kaua‘i United Way to reaching the 89 percent mark in its 2010- 11 campaign.
Carolyn Lum of the United States Tennis Association said there were actually six tournaments organized by the Kaua‘i Charity Tennis organization, five benefiting the Kaua‘i United Way and the sixth helping the Toys for Tots campaign.
Lum said participants had fun during the tournaments, especially the Toys for Tots tournament where a series of fun events were tagged onto the tournament schedule.
In light of this enthusiasm, registration is currently being accepted for a Po‘ipu Kai Tennis Charity Mixed Doubles Tournament which will be played Feb. 26-27 at the Po‘ipu Kai Tennis Courts. Proceeds from this tournament will benefit the Kaua‘i United Way.
Players can register to play in the A Division (4.0-4.5), B Division (3.5-4.0), or the C Division (3.0-3.5).
Deadline for registration is Feb. 18 and there is an entry fee of $20 per person.
Entry forms can be obtained through the Po‘ipu Kai Tennis Pro Shop, or by visiting kctennis2009.webs.com with checks made payable to Po‘ipu Kai Association.
The tournament is sponsored b the Po‘ipu Kai Resort, the Kaua‘i Tennis Association, and the Grand Hyatt Kaua‘i Resort and Spa.
