HONOLULU — The state is due to hold a public hearing this week on efforts to avoid and minimize harm to nene and other endangered birds during the planned construction of a new development at Kaua‘i Lagoons Resort in Lihu‘e.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is expected to host the meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School to address a Habitat Conservation Plan prepared by developers.
The developers plan to build 705 condominium and time-share units and 65 single family lots. They also intend to build a new golf clubhouse and a 27-hole golf course complex.
Some of the development will replace structures damaged by Hurricane Iniki in 1992. Others are due to replace part of property’s original golf courses.
Copies of the draft Habitat Conservation Plan and Incidental Take License are available for review at the Lihu‘e Public Library and online at www.state.hi.us/dlnr/dofaw in the HCP section.
