LIHU‘E — The Rotary Club of Kalepa Sunrise recently rebuilt 14 student desks for Wilcox Elementary School with the help of visiting family from Washington state and the Kaua‘i Chapter of the Hawai‘i Foster Youth Coalition, a news release states.
Adults and youth worked hard to dismantle the old, rusted and discarded desks, removing old plywood desk tops and repainting the metal frames. New wooden tops were cut, edges routered and sanded, and new paint applied, turning these desks into beautiful like-new tables perfect for entertaining at home, the release states.
All this work was done to support the upcoming mini-carnival school fundraiser on Feb. 4 at Wilcox Elementary School.
The desks will be available for sale as part of the fundraiser.
