PO‘IPU — A 68-year old visitor apparently drowned Saturday afternoon on the South Shore, county officials said.
Kaua‘i police on Sunday identified the man as Charles McGowin of Carmel, Calif.
He appeared to be in distress while swimming in waters off the Marriott Waiohai at approximately 3 p.m., a county news release states.
He was assisted to shore, where lifeguards administered CPR until the Kaua‘i Fire Department arrived on scene.
KFD personnel continued CPR efforts while the man was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, the release states.
