Thank you, residents of Kaua‘i
The day I arrived in Kaua‘i I had lost my purse. I want to say thank you to everyone involved.
The police officer, Makana Rivera, was wonderful. He took a careful police report and called me when the purse was found.
I thank the young lady who just gave me her wireless mouse so I could cancel my credit cards.
I thank the Starbuck’s employee who gave me a coupon for a free drink. (I had no money.)
I thank Rodger Westbrook, who found my purse. He called the police station that night to report he had found it. Everything was still there in my purse!
How fortunate for me and all because the residents of Kaua‘i were helpful, kind and honest. Kaua‘i is truly a paradise!

Edee Seymour is here
Look no more, Sarah Snodgrass. Edee Seymour has been a fellow resident at the Regency at Puakea, a retirement home located in Lihu‘e.
She is, I’m sure, the same friendly and humorous person you knew and deserving of your re-acquaintance when you re-visit our Kaua‘i in April.
Aloha.

Tanner an expert Mormon misinformer
As a visitor to your beautiful island from Utah, I was very interested to see your article on Sandra Tanner, and your headline portrayal of her as a “Mormon historian.” This representation is very misleading.
Ms. Tanner and her late husband made full-time careers spreading misinformation about the Mormon church. Their writings have been soundly refuted and shown to be full of misrepresentations and twisted half-truths. No real scholar of Mormonism takes them seriously. Few in Utah, other than their fellow Mormon-haters, pay them much attention these days.
If members of the Kaua‘i Christian Fellowship really want to find out about Mormons, they should talk to a Mormon. If they just want to reinforce ignorant anti-Mormon prejudice, Ms. Tanner is expert at that.

The day is near
On this past Friday, at the Children of the Land Center in Kapa‘a, Na Keiki O Ka ‘Aina and the Kaua‘i Alliance for Peace and Social Justice presented a free showing of the documentary film, “South of the Border,” directed by Oliver Stone.
It was attended by a packed house. Topical folk songs were performed first, and an open public discussion followed the viewing. Everyone came with a curious and open mind, and they witnessed positive human history/herstory in the making.
“South of the Border” documents a great light that is shining upon the world. The light comes from Latin America, and it is manifesting positive changes for many millions of formerly hopeless people. Not without great struggles in most cases, the political revolutions that have recently taken place have been relatively peaceful, given the stifling oppression suffered under U.S., Spanish and other colonialists and treasure seekers.
The film was made in 2009, and released in 2010. But it has not seen by many, probably because it threatens too many in the mass media and in the U.S. government, who have been caught in a huge lie. The lie is that the socialist movement is evil and that it somehow threatens America. The great irony of that lie is that America already is a socialist country in many ways.
The beginning of the movie shows how the U.S. government and their lapdogs in the corporate media have twisted and obliterated the truth, in their campaign to demonize and de-legitimize any resistance to colonialism, resource exploitation and U.S. backed dictators and puppet governments. In the past, that lie has caused death and misery for millions, but now the current millions are creating a positive future for themselves.
Many great reforms have already taken place in Latin America, and many more need to happen. The beauty and joy of the people of the countries explored in the film and in the interviews of the democratically elected leaders is so wonderfully uplifting and hopeful for the future of all mankind.
Using the Golden Rule, Love and Respect for the ‘Aina, and Common Sense, the modern day Bolivarians of Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador have joined Cuba in working to improve the social, political and economic health of each country. The model was created by Simon Bolivar the Liberator, who defeated the Spanish monarchy and led many nations to independence and democracy in the early 1800s.
The people of those seven countries are freeing themselves of capitalist hoarding by the rich, foreign domination and military bases, CIA assassination plots, DEA killings and corruption, the tyranny of the International Monetary Fund, the mega corporate pillaging of resources, etc. And, those citizens are providing a model for us here and people all over the world to improve our systems, our governance and our compassion for each other and the planet.
Every high school and college student and every adult in America should see this film. When will America wake up to all the damage it has done, and to the potential it has to lead the world to a kinder and gentler future for the whole world? I think that day is near.
