HANALEI – Ocean Safety officials are alerting the public about a high surf warning in effect for all north- and west-facing shores through 6 p.m. Saturday, a county news release states.
Damaging surf is expected to peak early Thursday morning with wave heights of up to 35 feet along west-facing shores and 40 feet along north-facing shores.
A high surf warning means that large dangerous waves are expected to batter the shoreline and produce deadly rip currents.
While the high surf warning is in effect, beachgoers are urged to stay completely out of the water on the north shore and at west facing beaches.
Coastal residents should make preparations to protect life and property from large waves and possible flooding.
