LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i was drying out Monday after storms deluged parts of the island Sunday.
Rising streams had made some roads impassable and residents found sheds overturned due to gusts of wind, but no serious injuries were reported.
National Weather Service forecasters extended a high surf advisory for the county’s north- and west-facing shores through early this morning.
Bbut the flood warning and other watches were allowed to expire Sunday night.
Above-normal rainfall in December eliminated drought conditions on Kaua‘i, according to the NWS, and January showers have only continued to saturate the island.
In the last seven days on Kaua‘i, Wailua recieved 9.62 inches of rain, Mt. Wai‘ale‘ale had 8.82 inches, 5.29 inches fell in Kapa‘a, 7.49 inches in Waimea and 8.51 inches were recorded in Hanalei, according to gages managed by the United States Geological Society.
