Kudos to all those volunteers who turned out early New Year’s Day to clear the beaches at Lydgate Park. John Lydgate was busy coordinating the dumping of debris at the “pregnant dumpster” so the county wouldn’t get upset at the cleanup efforts which John credits Thomas Noyes for organizing.
Angelo Catiguy (he wanted to know where Kenny Ishii was) and his son Derek were helping on behalf of the PIHI group, and Esther Field of Olympia, Wash., (too bad it’s the opposite end of Vancouver where Rachel Gehrling moved to) wanted to know more about the upcoming Ocean Counts since her son Aaron has been watching the whales make their way to the South Shore.
Nick Galante went to Po‘ipu Beach early Friday so he could get his “copyrighted spot.” It’s amazing how many people showed up — Franklin Fontanilla (he’ll be drag racing in 2011) had his family parked on a good spot, and Angela Tillson (helps to have connections) and Chris Reimer (with his camera, this time) showed up just before everything started. Hats off to Jody Kjeldsen and the Po‘ipu Beach Resort Association for putting everything together.
