Ben Bregman was happy to be doing the final football game of 2010, Thursday when Brad Hiranaka and the Kaua‘i Youth Football league hosted the Neighbor Island state championships at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium.
Shawn McGurn said he was refereeing football in Florida, where the games were being played in 30-degree weather, so even with the mud the Kapa‘a game was pleasurable.
And, of course, with football, it was nice to see Ralph Suniga and Mario Longboy do the play-by-play at the mud bowl.
Randal Valenciano said he was already done with football for this year, but Kelvin Moniz said he was doing the game to help Brad. Otherwise, he would’ve gone to the KIF girls soccer game, played at Island School. Mahalo to Kaipo Kealalio and Sean Magoun for hosting the game.
Kevin Cram was taking advantage of no boys soccer to get some action photos of the girls, and kudos to Arlene Devitt on doing a great coaching job with Reiko Yoshida for Kaua‘i.
Happy New Year, Kaua‘i (and the world)! Stay safe!
