NAWILIWILI — Two children of longtime Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club employees were recipients of the Jeff Loo Memorial Scholarships, Wednesday.
The awards were presented by Margret Loo, mother of Jeff Loo, who was joined by Brad Snyder, Steve Yannarell, Kaupena Kinimaka and Chuck Brady of the Kaua‘i Marriott ‘ohana.
Allan Alquisalas Jr. is a culinary arts student at the Kaua‘i Community College and is the son of Carmencita and Allan Alquisalas, Carmencita being a housekeeper at the Kaua‘i Marriott since 1995.
Sherri Ann Cubangbang is studying Business, Hospitality and Toursim at the Azusa Pacific University in California and is the daughter of Eliza and Boris Cubangbang, Eliza also working in the housekeeping department at the Kaua‘i Marriott since 2002.
In addition to the recognition with lei and the monetary awards, the scholarship recipients and their families were hosted to a luncheon with Ms. Loo at the Kukui’s restaurant at the Kaua‘i Marriott.
Brady said the scholarships are presented in memory of Jeff Loo who was with the Marriott Human Resources department and instrumental in re-opening of the Kaua‘i Marriott following the passage of Hurricane Iniki in 1992.
