Kudos to Steven Yee and Thomas Noyes for getting the bicycle “training” ride together, Sunday. You would never guess there were that many bicyclists in town. Angelo Catiggay (where was Kenny Ishii?) was one of the early PIHI (Philippine Island Hawai‘i Island) bikers to show, and after everything was said and done, mahalo to DL Byron of Bike Hugger, a bicyclist group from Seattle, Wash., for noticing the story in the paper.
The Bike Hugger group has been tooling around Kaua‘i (they even have a picture of Bruce Sakimae on their Flickr website). Too bad they missed the Lihu‘e ride. They would’ve been good company for Adrian Fernandez of the Bay Area and Lyndee Richmond of California who has been doing solo rides here.
Visit www.bikehugger.com for some of their exploits (Kirin Ichiban and coconuts?) on Kaua‘i.
Mahalo to Ed Kawamura and his ‘ohana for the mochi (gotta have good luck, now) during the mochi pounding, Sunday. Derek Kawakami balanced pounding mochi and delivering the keynote address at Rizal Day, so between all of that, he’s gotta have a good year coming up.
OK, check out Brad Hiranaka and the Kaua‘i Youth Football Thursday at the New Kapa‘a Town Park stadium.
