HONOLULU — Heavy rain that was soaking Hawai‘i was expected to last through at least Tuesday, and forecasters warned Sunday of possible flooding.
With a strong storm system moving across the state, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for O‘ahu, Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau through Tuesday afternoon. A flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding in the area, the weather service said.
Up to 2.5 inches of rain fell in O‘ahu during a 12-hour period ending at 8 a.m. Sunday, according to the weather service.
Besides the heavy rain expected through Tuesday, unstable weather patterns could bring more rain to the state through the rest of the week, according to forecasters.
