LIHU‘E — The two teens shot with BBs on Saturday next to a Kapa‘a school provided false statements about the incident, county officials said Wednesday.
“In relation to the BB gun shooting incident that was originally released on Dec. 20, further investigation by the Kaua‘i Police Department has revealed that portions of the statements made by the victims with respect to the alleged unknown suspects, suspect vehicle and how the injuries were sustained, were not factual,” a county news release states.
KPD is not looking for suspects, officials said.
A county news release issued Monday stated that the boys, ages 15 and 17, were eastbound along Kawaihau Road at approximately 4 p.m. when an oncoming black sport utility vehicle with tinted windows and chrome bumpers approached. As the vehicle neared, the boys noticed a gun barrel protruding from the rear passenger window.
The earlier release said the victims were shot several times with a BB gun that left welts on their bodies. The father of the boys notified authorities and then transported the victims to Mahelona Hospital where they were treated and released.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Police Dispatch, 241-1711, or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
