LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department has identified the man who was shot dead Friday morning near Anahola Beach Park.
A forensic autopsy of Aureo Moore, 34, of Kapa‘a, has been scheduled for Monday, county officials said in a press release Saturday.
“Police are continuing their investigation of the Anahola homicide. No one has yet been charged in this case,” county officials said in the release.
KPD apprehended two suspects on Friday within hours of the crime. County spokeswoman Mary Daubert confirmed early Saturday evening that the two suspects were still being held at the police cellblock.
Moore had been arrested multiple times in the past, including as recent as Nov. 22 for second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and third-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
County lifeguards said on Friday they heard the gun shots from their tower some 300 yards away. But the distance and overgrown bushes partially obscure the view of the road where Moore was shot, making it nearly impossible for anyone to positively identify the suspects.
When the lifeguards arrived at the scene, after the shooter had already left, their only concern was to treat the wounded man, the lifeguards said Friday.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Det. James Miller at 241-1904, police dispatch at 241-1711 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
