Free helicopter rides for seniors
LIHU‘E — Safari Helicopters is once again inviting Kaua‘i resident senior citizens to fly on a Deluxe Waterfall Safari tour for free, on a space available basis.
“We had the idea when a friend of ours had cancer and we took him on a flight,” Safari Helicopters owner Grace Meyers said. “He was in tears at how beautiful Kaua‘i is. We decided from then on to do this.”
Safari has offered free rides to seniors about once a year since the 1980s.
Call 246-0136 to place your name on the list of interested passengers, and you must be ready to fly within one hour’s notice. Open to those 60 and older, and proof of age and residency is required.
Red Cross encourages holiday donations
LIHU‘E — During 2010, Kaua‘i County Red Cross responded to six disasters on island and helped 21 individuals recover from their losses.
However, Red Cross is not federally funded, and instead operates and provides services through grants, donations and volunteers.
Therefore, the organization is encouraging residents this holiday season to remember the Red Cross during charitable giving.
“Charitable donations, no matter what the denomination, are greatly appreciated,” said Kaua‘i County Red Cross Director Laura Burman, “because they serve the community in which we all live by providing the materials necessary for disaster preparedness and response to emergencies.”
Donations may be made online www.hawaiiredcross.org or by calling 245-4919. Tribute gifts, donations made in the name of a person or business, are also accepted.
The Red Cross 2010 Holiday Giving Catalog allows those who give to choose how their donation is spent, such as military comfort kits, infant care kits, blankets and hot meals. Please visit redcross.org/gifts for additional details.
Lauren Angulo named vacation rental director for Bali Hai Realty
HANALEI — Lauren Angulo, former president and principal broker for Pure Kaua‘i, was recently named vacation rental director for Coldwell Banker Bali Hai Realty.
She will oversee customer service along with vacation rental reservations and operations for over 1,000 bookings a year. In addition, she will be in charge of property management for 20 homes in the region.
Angulo brings a depth of experience in business start-ups, along with a bachelor of arts degree in organizational behavior and a master of science degree in clinical psychology.
Her recent three-year stint with Pure Kaua‘i provided her with a broad background in supporting visitor expectations for high-end properties, while incorporating health, wellness and adventure pursuits into the vacation experience.
Angulo says her goals are “to take it up several notches on many levels.” She is a strong believer in separating customer service for guests and property management services for homeowners. She says, “Serving the vacation guest and serving the homeowner requires distinctly unique skills. With our new structure we are now providing complete services to both segments.”
KCFCU opens new LEED’s gold certified headquarters
LIHU‘E — Nov. 20, a crowd of approximately 1,000 gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union’s (KCFCU) new 21,300-square-foot home office at Kukui Grove West.
The Kukui Grove West facility is the first credit union and first financial institution in the state of Hawai‘i to be gold Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program certified.
As part of the festivities, KCFCU members and guests were invited to tour the new facility. The building’s many “green” features were highlighted in a 10-minute video presentation, which is available for viewing at www.kcfcu.org.
“Beyond its many sustainable features, our new Kukui Grove West facility provides a naturally lit open lobby, dual drive-up teller windows and state-of-the-art ATMs,” said Mel Chiba, KCFCU’s President and CEO in a press release. “It truly represents a balance of convenience and comfort and a commitment to preserving our environment.”
