ANAHOLA — A man in his late 40s died today after being shot multiple times around 10:56 a.m. near Anahola Beach Park, county officers and eye witnesses said.
Based on information from witnesses, Kaua‘i police apprehended two male suspects without incident in separate locations in Anahola. They are being held in Police Cellblock pending charges of murder, county officials said.
The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin has been notified, the release states.
Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau water safety officers were first on the scene shortly after 11 a.m. Carl Ragasa proceeded to stop the bleeding while Kai Wedemeyer contacted paramedics and relayed information to Ragasa on how to proceed treating the injured man.
Randy Ortiz, the Ocean Safety Bureau supervisor, arrived on scene within five minutes of the incident, and the injured man was transported shortly after 11:30 a.m. to the hospital.
According to information from witnesses, the injured man sustained three shots to the head and three shots to the body from a .22 caliber weapon.
One of the lifeguards reported two people running from the scene, one without a shirt, and one with a plaid hooded shirt carrying the weapon. Both were described as being “local” in their late teens or early 20s.
Police at 1:30 p.m. had about 300 yards of the area remaining closed off while doing investigative work.
