PUHI — Kristle Henry scored a game-high 18 points to pace the Kaua‘i Red Raiders in a 71-16 win over the Island School Voyagers, Thursday night at the Island School gym.
It was the first win for the Raider Wahine (1-1), who dropped their season opener to Kapa‘a on Tuesday, but rebounded for the road victory.
The game had been scheduled for Friday night at Kaua‘i High School, but had to be moved due to the Kaua‘i High winter ball.
Uila Ahosivi followed up her strong opener with another big night, scoring 14 points, most of them coming in the paint. Lacey Lucas had nine on the night, including the Raiders’ final six points of the game.
Casey Anacleto had eight points, including two 3-pointers, while Kawehi Louis-Diamond and Kelsey Cadiente had seven and six points, respectively.
Jasmine Mariano had three, Jennifer Grady and Alexis Hernandez each had a pair and Shyanne Sadora and Bristy-Ann Agu had one point apiece.
Agu led Kaua‘i with four assists, while Henry had three and Kristyn Lorita and Mariano each had a pair.
Kalena Wong and Lauren Claypoole each had five points to lead the Voyagers (0-2).
Madison Duarte and Kelly Culliney each had two points and Joy Claypoole and Stephanie Steuri had one point apiece.
The Raiders ran out to a large early lead, going up 16-0 before the Voyagers got on the board. Henry had eight of the Raiders’ first 10 points.
Kaua‘i held a 30-5 lead at halftime.
Island scored its first 12 points at the foul line before Lauren Claypoole got a lay-up off of an offensive rebound for the team’s first field goal, which was followed shortly thereafter by a jumper from Wong.
Both teams spent a lot of time at the foul line, Kaua‘i shooting 11-of-25 from the stripe, Island going 12-of-30.
Waimea 64, Island 13,
Tuesday night
In each team’s season opener, the Waimea Lady Menehune notched a 64-13 win over Island School, Tuesday night at the Island School gym.
Brandee Victorino scored nine of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter and Jayme Jacinto had 10 of her 15 points in the fourth for Waimea (1-0).
Cheyanne Duarte had 13 and Vakeesha Lagazo had 12 points.
Lauren Claypoole had seven points to lead Island, while sister Joy had six.
Waimea hosted its home opener Friday night as the Kapa‘a Lady Warriors (1-0) headed to the Westside to take on the Lady Menehune. Results of that contest will be available in the Sunday edition of The Garden Island.
