Elfrieda Hamano
Elfrieda Akona Hamano of Koloa died on her 94th birthday on Nov. 21, 2010, at Hale Kupuna. Born on Nov. 21, 1916, in Koloa, she retired from the Department of Education.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John Hamano.
She is survived by daughters Lynette(Carlos) Buhk of Koloa, Helen (Joel) Morris of Santa Rosa, Calif.; grandchildren Ryan (Monica) Buhk of Koloa, Laina (Jake) Maniscalco of Sunnyvale, Calif., John (Denise) Morris of Alameda, Calif., Jay (Adriana) Morris of Oakland, Calif., Joellyn Morris of San Fransisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Jordan Fregosi, Kendall, Kaleinani, and Makena Buhk, Giselle and Julian Morris; sisters-in-law Kunie Kiyabu, Harue Chinen; brothers-in-law William Sasaki; beloved niece Elethia Okuno; devoted hanai family Don and Trudy Schoenfeld; many nieces and nephews.

Pedro Duterte Jr.
Pedro “Porkchop” Duterte Jr. of Hanama‘ulu died at his home on Nov. 22, 2010. Born on June 21, 1951, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, he retired from the State Airports Division as a heavy equipment operator and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by brother Serafine Duterte and parents Pedro and Loretta (Delostrico) Duterte.
He is survived by wife Cindy (Koerte) Duterte; daughters Tamara Duterte and Jamie Duterte, both of Hanama‘ulu; grandsons Austin and Jai Dabin-Duterte; brothers Lorry (Janel) Duterte, Alan (Vanessa) Duterte, Norman (Sheri) Duterte, Bobby Duterte; sister Jerilynn (Sarge) Agor of California; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Immaculate Conception Church; visitation at 8:30 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m.

Bruce Hoopii
Bruce “The Coconut Man” Kawehiwehi Hoopii of Anahola died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Nov. 26, 2010, at age 62. Born in Lihu‘e on Sept. 29, 1948, he was a self-employed coconut tree trimmer and coconut leaf weaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ophelia Hoopii, and brother, Samuel Hoopii.
He is survived by his wife, Evangeline “Aunty Angie” Hoopii of Anahola; five children, Samuel Lanning of Kaua‘i, Leinoa (Geordie) Holden of Canada, Lohelani (Kaimi) Nabeshima of Puhi, Kawehi Hoopii of Kapahi, Liana Hoopii of Puhi; three hanai children, Tina Silva, Pristine De Jesus, Francia Demitrial; six grandchildren, Brianne Lanning, Xion Lanning, Isaiah Lanning, Ashley Holden, Kaimi Nabeshima Jr., Kawehilani Hoopii; three hanai grandchildren; two brothers, William McCullen, Robert (Donna) Hoopii; three sisters, Dolores (James) Johnson, Nora Contrades, Ophelia Kanoa; and numerous, aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 12, at Kapa‘a Seventh Day Adventist with visitation from 3 p.m. and services celebrated at 4 p.m. Reception to follow. Family requests casual attire.

Caroline Albao
Caroline Goo Albao of Kapa‘a died on Nov. 7, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 93. Born Feb. 26, 1917, in Kalihiwai, she was an accountant for Hawaiian Canneries.
She was preceded in death by husband Henry A. Albao.
She is survived by daughters Barbara Gayagas and Janis (Chris) Wright, sister Lynette Lee; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Private services were held. Borthwick Mortuary Kaua‘i assisted the family with arrangements.
Irene Tupou
Irene Shendrina Momi Tupou of Wailua Homesteads died Nov. 23, 2010, at The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu at age of 53. Born Feb. 21, 1957 on Kaua‘i, she was employed for 19 years with Coco Palms Hotel and worked as a certified nurse aide at Hale ‘Oma‘o Home Health Services, and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her mother Harriet Kalama-Soares; sister Antoinette “Toni” Arizo; father-in-law Finau Tupou and mother-in-law Seini Tupou.
She is survived by her husband Filipe Tupou of Wailua Homesteads; daughters Crystal (Kirk) Momi Tupou of Lahaina, Maui; and Casey Tupou, Candace (Tyson) Tupou and Cassandra “Ulu” Tupou, all of Wailua Homesteads; grandsons Kaeo Rita-Tupou, Zaedyn Tupou, Tryston “Kala” Tupou, all of Wailua Homesteads; Radyn Yap of Lahaina, Maui; brothers Roger Soares of Wailua Homesteads, Gordon (Darlene) Soares Sr. of Kalaheo and Albert Soares Jr. of Lihu‘e; sister Cindy (Michael) Bandmann Sr. of Kapa‘a; brothers-in-law Samisoni “Soni” (Shana) Tupou of Anahola, ‘Olotesi (Nesi) Tupou of Mu’a, Tonga, Tu’ifua (Seini) Tupou of Ma’ufanga, Tonga; sisters-in-law Laukau (Maselo) Paseka of Lapaha, Tonga, Sitilia (Mosese) Fifita of New Zealand, ‘Ane (Kolomaile) Takataka of Australia, Nita (Piota) Latu of American Samoa, Hulita Tupou of New Zealand, Eviena (Tevita) Fifita of Ma’ufanga, Tonga; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will host a luncheon at Wailua Homesteads Park following services.

Haruji Maeda
Haruji Maeda of Kekaha died Nov. 25, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 78. Born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Waimea, he was an electrician supervisor with Olokele Sugar Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kimie Maeda.
He is survived by his sons Wayne Maeda of Kaumakani, Owen (Natalie) Maeda of Kalaheo and Bert Maeda of Honolulu; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Casual attire is suggested.

Fusao Hirano
Fusao Hirano of ‘Ele‘ele died on Nov. 15, 2010, at age 97. Born on Oct. 8, 1914, in Kalaheo, Kaua‘i, he was a carpenter with McBryde Sugar Co.
He is survived by his son Robert T. Hirano of Honolulu; daughters Shirley Kodani of Wailuku, Maui and Alice Yamauchi of Honolulu; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Ellen Kawakami of Kalaheo and Yukie Ueoka of Wailuku, Maui.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Sechie No le Kaua‘i Church in ‘Oma‘o. Service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested.

Phyllis Keahi
Phyllis Kuulei Kaho‘ohanohano Pa Keahi of Anahola, Kaua‘i, died Nov. 6, 2010, at Straub Hospital, Honolulu, at age 78. Born Oct. 1, 1932, in Hanalei, Kaua‘i, she was a fruit packer for Pineapple Cannery.
She was preceded in death by husband Joseph Keahi; brothers Daniel, Asa and Palu Pa; and sister Annie Keawemauhili.
She is survived by son Domi Ragsac Jr. (Carole); Mo‘opunas Joya Ahonui Bowman (Chris); step-children Alvin Keahi (Carol), Joanna Yates (Randall), and Puanani Carvalho (George); and six grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday, Dec. 18 at Kapa‘a Missionary Church. Greeting of family at 9:30 a.m. and service at 10 a.m.
Gregory Lund
Gregory Richard Lund of Hanalei died at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital on Nov. 26, 2010, at age 52. Born in California on April 2, 1958, he was the owner of Lund Professional Painting.
He is survived by two daughters, Heidi Lund of Maryland and Holly Lund of Arizona; parents Richard and Bettye Lund of California; brother David (Nicole) Lund of California; one granddaughter, Emma Reese Lund of Maryland; two nephews, Griffin and Kyle Lund of California.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Dec. 12, at the Amazing Grace Church at Hanalei Elementary School beginning at 9:30 a.m., with scattering of cremains with a paddle-out at 11 a.m. at Pine Trees.

Herminia Magana Corpuz of Koloa died Dec. 5, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 64. Born in the Philippines on Dec. 5, 1946, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by Husband, Victory Corpuz Sr. sons, Rowel Corpuz, Victory Corpuz Jr. Daughters, Aileen Fontejon Essie Alao, Rowelynn Corpa and 7 grandsons.
Services to be held on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, Koloa. Visitation at 8:30 a.m.; Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m.; burial at Koloa Public Cemetery.

Clyde J. Howard of Kapa‘a died Dec. 4, 2010, at age 87. Born in Englewood, Colo., he was a lather for Bill C. Caroll Co.
He was preceded in death by wife Lillian C. Howard.
He is survived by daughter Lynelle (Jim) Hughes; son Alan (Deanne) Howard; sisters Shirley Carter, Labelle (John) Grotii; brother Jay (Midge) Howard; granddaughter Jenna Kubly; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Madeline Freitas Barretto Nelson of Lihu‘e died Nov. 10, 2010, at Straub Hospital, Honolulu, at age 82. Born Nov. 24, 1927, in Kealia, Kaua‘i, she worked for Hawaiian Canneries.
She was preceded in death by parents Joe and Lorinda Barretto; brothers Joe Barretto Sr., Frank Barretto Sr., Gil Barretto Sr., Manuel Barretto; and sister Mabel Branco.
She is survived by husband Gary Nelson; daughter Brigid (Frank) Cermak; brothers John (Carol) Barretto, Tony Barretto, Robert (Norma) Barretto; sisters Lucy Freitas, Alice (Archie) Fontinella; aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and one grandchild.

Nellie Ann Ludwiczak of Kekaha died at Hale Kapuna Heritage Home, ‘Oma‘o, on Nov. 30, 2010, at age 90. Born in New York on March 4, 1920, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by husband Edward Ludwiczak.

Charlotte Leilani Medeiros Ayudan of Kalaheo died Dec. 4, 2010, at her home in Kalaheo. Born July 10, 1924, in Honolulu, she was a field worker for K.E.O.
She was preceded in death by husband Marcos B. Ayudan; daughter Melinda Marie Balocan.
She is survived by daughters Yvonne (Clyde) Hussey, Honolulu, Laverne Corupuz, ‘Ele‘ele, Tisha (Richy) Balocan Ayudan, Kalaheo; sons Wayne Buddie (Gail) Ayudan, West Jordan; caregiver Estralita Fernandez, Hanapepe; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.

Raymond Hesapene
Raymond Peter “Titang” Hesapene of Kekaha died at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital on Dec. 5, 2010, at age 88. Born in Aiea, Hawai‘i, on Aug. 31, 1922, he was a heavy equipment operator with Kekaha Sugar Plantation and also a veteran of WWII assigned to the 1st and 2nd Filipino Regiment.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria J. Hesapene; mother Hilaria Albarado; father Benito Libre; biological father Pedro Hesapene; brothers Magua Hesapene and Felix “Dong” Libre; sister Susanna Sabala.
He is survived by sons Milling (Denise) Canon Jr. of Lenexa, Kansas, Wayne (Kersti) Canon of Glendale, Ariz., Alexander (Francine) Canon Sr. of Anahola, Raymond Hesapene Jr. of Pearl City, and Peter Ray Hesapene of Hanama‘ulu; daughters Shiela Canon of Wahiawa, Cynthia Canon of Oregon, Linda Canon of Salt Lake, O‘ahu, and Cecelia (Justin) Swartzmiller of Honolulu; 21 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
