Haruji Maeda
Haruji Maeda of Kekaha died Nov. 25, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 78. Born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Waimea, he was an electrician supervisor with Olokele Sugar Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kimie Maeda.
He is survived by his sons Wayne Maeda of Kaumakani, Owen (Natalie) Maeda of Kalaheo and Bert Maeda of Honolulu; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Garden Island Mortuary Chapel. Casual attire is suggested.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Mitsue Miwa
Mitsue Miwa of Wailua died on Aug. 11, 2010 at the age of 93. She was born on Nov. 24, 1916 in Kekaha.
She is survived by her husband Shinji Miwa; daughters Marilyn Miwa and Judith Stambaugh; granddaughter Lisa (Eric) Gordon; two great-grandchildren, Madison and Chase Gordon; brother Motomu Togioka and sister Hisako Ueno.
Private services were held.
Gary Blaich
Gary Loomis Blaich, M.D. of Kilauea, died at home on Nov. 25, 2010. Born April 23, 1946 in Honolulu, he worked as a psychiatrist in the state mental-health system, and in private practice on Kaua‘i, for over 30 years. As president of the Kaua‘i Public Land Trust, he led the trust in conservation of over 175 acres of coastal lands on the island.
He was preceded in death by parents Alice and Norman Blaich, sister Diane Anderson and brother-in-law Cliff Bailey.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Beryl; daughters Mehana (Kilipaki) Vaughan and Meleana (Will) Estes; grandchildren, Pikomanawakupono and Pi‘ina‘emalina; mother-in-law Amelia (Jim Beatty) Bailey; brothers- and sisters-in-law Don Anderson and Jim, Fahy, Speedy (Pauline) and John (Karla) Bailey; nieces Britten, Lindsey and Brooke (Johnny) Bailey and Nicole (Bobby) Galchutt; and nephews Camm (Janene) Willener, Kaulana Bailey and Michael Coots.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m., with visitation from 9:30 a.m., at a location to be named later.
In lieu of wreaths, the family welcomes lei and donations to Gary’s favorite charities: the Kaua‘i Public Land Trust, the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank and the Honolulu Art Academy.
