LIHU‘E — Peter Nakamura was retained as county clerk by the county council Wednesday afternoon.
The vote was 4-2, with freshman Councilwoman Nadine Nakamura recusing herself, as Peter Nakamura is her brother-in-law.
Council Chair Jay Furfaro was joined in supporting the resolution naming Peter Nakamura county clerk by Councilmembers Mel Rapozo, Derek Kakawami and Dickie Chang.
Councilmembers JoAnn Yukimura and Tim Bynum voted against the resolution. They had backed a plan to conduct an executive search for the position.
Eddie Topenio was retained as deputy county clerk.
