LIHU‘E — Incoming Planning Director Michael Dahilig announced Tuesday that Dee Crowell will become deputy planning director effective Dec. 13.
Crowell served as the county’s planning director from August 1993 to February 2003. He was the deputy planning director from February 1993 to August 1993, a county news release states.
“We are fortunate to have someone with the experience and historical knowledge of Kaua‘i planning issues return to the county to serve our community at this critical time,” Dahilig said in the release. “I will be looking to Dee for counsel and guidance as we move the department forward in implementing the county’s General Plan.”
Crowell will replace current Deputy Planning Director Imai Aiu.
Also Tuesday, Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. announced that he has selected Tommy Contrades to fill the position of capital improvement program manager. This position was created in June when the County Council approved the mayor’s proposal to provide central coordination and oversight of CIP projects that currently span several departments.
Contrades worked as a business agent for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union for more than 20 years and also served as a commissioner for the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and as a member of the Kaua‘i County Planning Commission, the release states.
“I know that Tommy’s background will serve us well in moving our CIP projects out in a timely manner,” the mayor said in the release.
