LIHU‘E — In keeping with the dominance they displayed all season, the University of Hawai‘i women’s volleyball squad coasted to a 3-0 victory in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference championship tournament, Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
The Rainbow Wahine toppled Idaho (25-11, 25-21, 25-16) to move into the WAC championship against Utah State, which was a 3-2 winner over New Mexico State (25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 16-14).
That Hawai‘i (28-1) vs. Utah State (25-8) championship is scheduled to take place today at 6:30 p.m. local time (4:30 p.m. Hawaiian) on ESPNU.
Kanani Danielson, who was named the WAC Player of the Year for the second straight year, had a match-high 18 kills, also coming up with 11 digs on a .357 hitting percentage.
It made the 15th straight year that a UH player was named WAC Player of the Year.
Teammate Emily Hartong was named Freshman of the Year and Dave Shoji collected another Coach of the Year honor.
Chanteal Satele had 13 kills and five digs, while Dani Mafua led all players with 38 assists. Elizabeth Ka‘aihue came with 22 digs in the contest.
Alicia Milo led Idaho with 12 kills, while Allison Walker had 11.
