LIHU‘E — A Fifth Circuit jury deliberated less than three hours before finding Raquel Kahea Durant not guilty of drug charges.
Her trial lasted four days before Judge Kathleen Watanabe. Attorney Michael Soong represented Durant, and Samuel Jajich, county deputy prosecuting attorney, represented the state.
Durant was originally charged with second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia.
Kaua‘i Police Department officers executed a search warrant in July 2010 on a unit rented by Durant and occupied by both Durant and her boyfriend, Soong said in a press release.
Evidence indicated Durant’s boyfriend, on probation at the time of the police visit, tested positive for methamphetamine on that date.
Durant through Soong denied the drugs and paraphernalia were hers.
