LIHU‘E — Kekoa Cacal and Aaron Renaud were the deciding factors for the Lihu‘e Patriots Junior Midgets, who clinched the division title with a 16-6 win over the Kapa‘a Eagles, Sunday at Vidinha Stadium.
Keenan Kaluahine-Arroyo put the Patriots on the board in just over 15 seconds with a 57-yard pass to Brayden Farias with Renaud doing the point-after boot for an early 8-0 lead.
That stood until the third quarter when the Kapa‘a Eagles’ Braxton Garcia tapped paydirt on a one-yard charge at the 5:04 mark.
However, the point-after attempt came up empty and the Patriots still held a two-point lead.
Cacal put the game out of reach with 3:06 remaining in the third quarter with a 35-yard breakout run, followed by Renaud sealing the deal with his second successful PAT kick for the 16-6 final.
With the win, Lihu‘e finishes the Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League regular season with an 8-0 record and 16 points, followed by Kapa‘a dropping to 6-2 and 12 points.
The Koloa JM squad, dropping a 20-0 game to Kekaha, finishes in a three-way tie for third place. Koloa, Kekaha, and Hanapepe, ending their seasons last week, all finish with 2-6 records and four points apiece.
Kekaha’s Caleb Abergas broke the game open midway through the opening quarter when he returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown, the point-after coming up empty for the 6-0 bulge.
Shandon San Agustin-Nordmeier engineered a pass play to Jaycob Rapanot in the second quarter for a 25-yard score less than a minute into the period.
Jordan Baptista booted the PAT for an early 14-0 lead.
With 2:29 remaining in the half, Abergas found the end zone at the end of a two-yard charge for the 20-0 final.
The game was shortened when the Koloa roster fell below the minimum following an injury.
Alika Ventura found the end zone three times in the first period en route to Koloa Junior Pee Wees taking a 35-6 win over Kekaha.
Less than a minute following the opening kickoff, Ventura found paydirt on a 55-yard run with Noah Sasil booting the point-after for an early 8-0 lead.
Midway through the opening stanza, Ventura capped a Koloa drive with a 30-yard breakout for his second touchdown with Tayedyn Francisco running in the PAT for the 15-0 margin.
But Ventura wasn’t done, yet when he took the pigskin on a 14-yard ride to the end zone with 3:19 remaining in the first period.
That gave Koloa a 21-0 lead before Tinoa Albina kept the ball for an eight-yard scoring run with 1:06 showing in the first half.
Coming off a 21-6 halftime lead, Koloa JPW added a 15-yard Noah Thompson score, followed by Sasil booting his second PAT of the day, and Elijah Alderete iced the win with a one-yard charge with 4:15 showing in the third quarter.
With the win, Koloa ends in a tie with the Kapa‘a Eagles, a 20-0 winner over Lihu‘e, for second place with both teams ending with 5-2-1 records and 11 points.
The Hanapepe Colts, ending their season on a winning note last week, top the JPW standings with a 7-1 record and 14 points.

With 3:35 showing in the first period, Tyrus Camalliri found the end zone on a 35-yard run for the 13-0 lead that stood at the half.
