LIHU‘E — Maybe they need to adjust their motto to “Together We Make it Happen times four.”
Not only did the staff of Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union of Lihu‘e pledge 100 percent participation in the current Kaua‘i United Way campaign, but Chief Executive Officer Corinne King pledged to match employee contributions dollar for dollar and also make a corporate contribution on top of employee contributions.
King is also the credit union’s KUW campaign coordinator, a press release states.
With those additional pledges, that’s like magnifying employee contributions by a factor of four, said Lisa Murphy, KGEFCU marketing specialist.
“Wow, that sets the bar pretty high for the other island credit unions to beat,” KUW Executive Director Scott Giarman said. “But we know they’re going to try.”
KUW is the island’s umbrella charitable organization, Giarman said.
A single contribution helps the whole island, and money raised on Kaua‘i stays on Kaua‘i, he said.
The KUW participating agencies offer a diverse array of dozens of social-service programs that save lives and help tens of thousands of Kaua‘i people every year, he said.
“When those in need in our community get the professional help they deserve, every one of us is better off. Let’s all live united, the Kaua‘i United Way,” he said.
