LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation has released All-Star teams for three fall sports, as the football, cross country and bowling honorees have all been named, according the KIF executive director Diane Nitta.
Earning Offensive and Defensive Player of the year were Kapa‘a quarterback Brentten Rapozo and Kaua‘i linebacker Travis Koga.
Waimea’s Jae Delos Reyes was chosen at the quarterback position, while teammate and running back/quarterback Alika Emayo was named an All-Star at the utility spot.
Kapa‘a’s Waika Alapai took the honor at running back and fellow Warrior John Das was named as the special teams selection.
The wide receiver foursome was Kapa‘a’s Marshall Adkisson and Darren Taylor, Kaua‘i’s Darren Acoba and Waimea’s Clifton Callejo.
Offensive line honors went to Waimea’s Jake Corona, Kaua‘i’s Cameron Bargamento and Blaz Guzman and Kapa‘a’s Rylan Labuguen and Tyrus Moises.
Kaua‘i’s Shea Shimabukuro was selected at the kicker position.
Kapa‘a’s Kevin Cremer and Kaulana Kaui were chosen at the linebacker position, along with Waimea’s Kyle Fleming.
Kaua‘i’s Austin Motooka and Henry Rodriguez were honored as defensive backs, as were Waimea’s Paul Oligo and Kapa‘a’s Jacob Rapozo.
Down in the trenches, Kapa‘a’s Weston Moniz and Tumua Masaniai were named at defensive line, with Waimea’s Esias Mose and Kaua‘i’s Christopher Hau.
Punter went to Kapa‘a’s Kainalu Akiona.
Coach of the Year honors once again went to Kaua‘i’s Derek Borrero, whose Red Raiders won their eighth straight KIF title and will host Kalaheo in the first round of the HHSAA Div. II playoffs, Saturday at Vidinha Stadium (4:30 p.m. kickoff).
Cross Country
The boys team was made up of Island School’s Pierce Murphy and Ryan Perez, Kaua‘i’s Mason Vegas and Joshua Herr, along with five Kapa‘a runners — Cole Pemberton, Brycen Phillips, Joshua Cram, Micah Domingcil and Gabe Ball.
On the girls’ side, Kaua‘i dominated the All-Star lineup, with Melissa Raisa Gil Carlos, Ashley Schnackenberg, Kyren Ishikawa, Cascade Mayer and Heidi Herr all named All-Stars.
Island School’s Lauren Spears and Joy Claypoole, Kapa‘a’s Cassie Wilson and Waimea’s Kaycee San Agustin-Nordmeier completed the selections.
Bowling
For boys bowling, Waimea freshman Chase Ueno led the way with a 182.2 average in his All-Star campaign.
He was joined by Kaua‘i’s Tevin Nakashima (179.1), Kapa‘a’s Randy Iloreta Jr. (178.8), Kaua‘i’s John Quisel (165.3), Kapa‘a’s Justin Uegawa (164.7) and Kaua‘i’s Kyle Balisacan (158.8).
The girls team was comprised of Kaua‘i’s Darcie Vea, who led the league with a 171.6 average, Kapa‘a’s Joanna Chang (169.0), Kaua‘i’s Kelsey Cadiente (164.8), Kapa‘a’s Angelika Questin (162.3), Waimea’s Bronte Acosta (155.4) and Kaua‘i’s Malia Garcia (154.3).
