Faced with a 6-0 halftime deficit, the Colts answered in the third period when Noah Bermudez found open ground for a 52-yard touchdown with 5:49 remaining in the period.
That tied the game before Kelekoma booted the 2-point PAT for the 8-6 win and the title of the JPW division.
Alika Ventura found Noah Sasil for a 19-yard touchdown with 6:54 left in the half to put Koloa on the boards for the 6-0 halftime lead.
With the win, the Hanapepe Colts JPW lock up the division title with a 7-1 record and 14 points. Koloa and Kapa‘a Eagles follow with 4-2-1 records and 9 points each.
Kapa‘a Eagles, a 31-6 winner over Kekaha, Sunday, also at Hanapepe Stadium, will tangle with the Lihu‘e Patriots this Saturday starting at 10 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium. Lihu‘e is currently in fourth place with a 2-5 record and four points.
Kekaha rounds out the division with an 0-7 record.
Tinoa Albina charged through for two yards in the final period to prevent a shutout for the Kekaha JPW.
Earlier, Dusten Ramseyer-Burdett pulled in a touchdown pass and ran back an interception for touchdown to lead the Eagles’ win.
Ramseyer-Burdett pulled in a 30-yard toss from Cade Halemanu to open the scorebooks at the 8:35 mark, that touchdown being graced by a Braden Watanabe run-in for the early 7-0 lead.
The Eagles upped the margin with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter when Teili Fonua found the end zone on a 4-yard romp.
Ten seconds into the second quarter, Ramseyer-Burdett plucked a Kekaha pass and ran it back 35 yards for the 19-0 lead.
But the Eagles weren’t done, yet as Kade Kupihea found paydirt on a 38-yard run with 2:23 remaining in the first half for the 25-0 Kapa‘a lead.
Keona Nakamura-Makanani iced the win on a 17-yard run in the third quarter.
Bernny Ned peeled off touchdowns of 64 yards and 36 yards, but Reymund Mendoza put Hanapepe Colts up over Koloa with 3:24 showing in the half on a 5-yard charge.
Ryan Ruiz added a one-yard touchdown in the third period to give the Colts a 26-12 edge over Koloa in the Junior Midget matchup, Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
Earlier in the day, Lopaka Ventura loped 77 yards to the end zone in the first quarter for the early 6-0 Koloa lead only to have Ned answer with his 64-yard score, Ky Tomimoto giving Hanapepe the 8-6 lead with a point-after boot.
Ventura answered with 15 ticks left in the first quarter with a 63-yard romp to paydirt to keep Koloa up, 12-8.
Ten ticks into the second period, Ned found the end zone on a 36-yard run for the 14-12 lead before Mendoza drove the Colts ahead of Koloa.
Sunday’s forfeit by Kekaha for not having the minimum roster, puts the Kapa‘a Eagles in contention for the title this Saturday in the Junior Midget division.
Lihu‘e, enjoying a bye and a 7-0 record with 14 points, will be challenged by the Eagles who enjoy a 6-1 record and 12 points in second place.
That showdown will kick off at noon at Vidinha Stadium and serves as a teaser for the First Hawaiian Bank Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association’s Division II playoff later in the afternoon.
Third place in the JM standings is held by Koloa and Hanapepe, Koloa being 2-5 and four points with one game to play while Hanapepe ends at 2-6 and four points. Kekaha is 1-5 and two points.
Games Saturday start at 8 a.m. with the Kapa‘a Eagles Mitey Mites tangling with the Lihu‘e Patriots. That game will be followed by the JPW match at 10 a.m. and the JM showdown starting at noon.
Koloa will play Kekaha, Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium starting at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to round out the regular Kaua‘i Pop Warner Football League season.
The KPWFL post-season includes four games in the Maile Bowl scheduled for Nov. 20 at Vidinha Stadium, and four games on tap for the Mokihana Bowl scheduled for Nov. 27 at Hanapepe Stadium.
The annual Shriners Bowl will feature six games starting at 8 a.m. on Dec. 4 at Vidinha Stadium.
