Looking forward to returning
My husband and I just returned from a two week holiday in Kaua‘i.
We had a wonderful time and were amazed by the beauty of the island and the top notch customer service we received everywhere we went.
We commented numerous times to various stores and restaurants about the outstanding and attentive service that we experienced.
We especially would like to mention a lovely restaurant that we discovered in Hanalei called Bouchons. We were so impressed with the food and service that we ended up returning nine times during our stay!
We loved everything about your island look forward to returning someday soon.

Please do it for the people
This letter is in response to Mollie Peck’s letter (“Election brings me down, Letters, Oct. 31). I used to have the same attitude, and have come to realize there’s thousands of other people and their families who feel the same way.
If you notice most of the negative ads are produced and paid for by the Democratic and Republican parties and may not have the approval of the candidate.
It has taken the “power of gray” to finally figure out that the Democratic and Republican parties are the downfall of this country and those who fall in to their constant negative tactics trying to gain power and control will never see or live with a “government we can trust.”
For the obvious reasons it is why I’m an “independent” and extremely proud of it. I look for the candidates, who I feel have moral family values, problem solving skills, above all honesty, and will take the right path to follow through for the people, not a political party’s agenda to gain control.
Just look at Hawai‘i, it has had a majority Democratic control for decades. If we all would get out and vote smart, there’s a good chance we can balance the political party controls of government, for the right solutions to the problems we so desperately need.
If we don’t, then it will continue as it has for decades. Higher taxes, higher cost of living, poor education, terrible business climate.

Are our children wiser than our adult voters?
In the article in the Nov. 4 Garden Island newspaper, reporter Léo Azambuja wrote thusly, “If the government was elected by the children of Hawai‘i, Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona would be our next governor.”
He went on to write, “The over 108,000 children statewide who voted in a mock election gave Aiona 59 percent of the votes. Aiona’s nemesis, Democratic candidate Neil Abercrombie, received 36 percent of the children’s votes.”
Are our children wiser than our Hawai‘i adult voters in knowing who might be the best leader for our state?
Perhaps, Kids Voting Hawai‘i, an affiliate of Kids Voting USA, should declare Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona as the “Kid’s Governor” in the State of Hawai‘i. Perhaps the “Kids Governor” should even convene a once-a-year conference of all the youth leaders from the public, private high schools and charter schools and debate and vote on tough issues such as the economy, partial birth abortions, civil unions, unemployment, and the health care which Obama pushed so hard in Congress.
This kids’ political event can be part of the schools’ social studies and civic courses. Moreover, adults may learn greatly from the untainted wisdom of youths and without pressure from the unions and party affiliations.
We congratulate the newly elected candidates, and pray God’s blessings upon them. May they seek God’s wisdom and directions in all their decisions so that they can best serve the people of Hawai‘i.

Aiona a modern day Rip Van Winkle?
The Republican Party keeps saying to him, “rise and shine,” and that is usually what you say to a sleepy head to wake them up.
So is his own party saying that Lt. Gov. Aiona has been asleep for the last eight years? It sure seems so.
What has Aiona done for you personally in the last eight years?
He says that he has lots of plans now, but where were those plans for the last eight years?
Or was the plan to harm our school system and lose jobs?
Because at this rate, your kids will not only have to go to the Mainland for jobs, but they won’t get hired when they get there because they have not had the opportunity of a normal education by being allowed to attend school five days a week.
No jobs here and no job there? That’s the plan?
It makes you scared what the new plans might be. This isn’t a game, it’s your children’s future.
Finding an honest politician today is like finding a needle in a haystack.
Most just care about two things. Getting paid and getting re-elected.
But you can honestly look at what someone has done, or hasn’t done, even though they had the opportunity to do something good.
Someone who had the chance to do good, but decided not to should not be given another chance to play with you and your children’s future. Your vote doesn’t just affect your children’s future, it affects your neighbors’ kids too.
