Emily Haber is happy because the cultural release of ‘a‘o, or Newell’s shearwater, for students at three schools finally took place. Dr. Joanne Woltmon said it appeared the fledging season is taking place a little later this year because the birds are only now beginning to appear. If you see a downed seabird, take it to the Kaua‘i Humane Society, or to any fire station on the island.
Hats off to the organizers of the Wil Veeck soccer tournament! The games have been really good — so good, that every game looked like a championship game! Well done!
Coaches Kevin Devitt, Mark Brandeburg, Matt Victor and other Kaua‘i High School soccer coaches have been busy working the players in preparation for tryouts (Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation soccer starts Dec. 15!), but were able to catch glimpses of the action.
Tiano’s island cuisine got its permits (mahalo for text messaging) and will be open today from 7 a.m. to midnight. Check out Joel and Mira Navasca and Cleo Kanai who will be waiting to see how you like their fusion of island delights with a touch of high end dining. This is Saturday, so there should be the buffet with carving station and home-made desserts.
Does that mean we have time for breakfast before the Veterans Day parade in Kapa‘a?
