LIHU‘E — Ocean Safety Bureau officials are alerting the public about a high surf warning scheduled to take effect at 4 p.m. today for all north- and west-facing shores.
The warning is expected to continue at least until Thursday, a county news release states.
Officials anticipate high surf and very hazardous ocean conditions from Hanalei to Kekaha with waves between 15 and 25 feet.
While the high surf warning is in effect, beachgoers are urged to stay completely out of the water on the north shore and at west-facing beaches, and to go to other guarded beaches on the island for swimming and snorkeling including: Lydgate, Po‘ipu or Salt Pond.
“Be safe by being smart, obey all warning signs posted, and check with the lifeguards before entering the water,” said Ocean Safety Bureau supervisor Kalani Vierra.
