Most county offices closed for furlough

LIHU‘E — Most county offices are closed for employee furloughs today, though The Kaua‘i Bus is running on its regular schedule, a county press release states.

Services like police and fire are still available, though some Kaua‘i Police Department and Kaua‘i Fire Department administrative offices are closed.

Wailua Golf Course and all the county beach parks are open and staffed, curbside trash and recyclables pickup continues as scheduled, and the Kekaha Landfill and all county solid waste transfer stations are open and staffed.

Closed are the Agency on Elderly Affairs, Civil Defense Agency, all divisions of the Department of Finance, Department of Liquor Control (except investigators), Department of Parks and Recreation administrative offices, Department of Personnel Services, all the administrative offices of the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Water.

Other county offices closed today are the Housing Agency, KFD administrative offices, Office of the County Attorney, Office of Economic Development, Office of the Mayor, Planning Department and Transportation Agency administrative offices.

The KPD Hawai‘i Government Employees Association office workers are observing the furlough day as well.

In order to minimize the disruption of services, the following offices are utilizing staggered furlough schedules or some other means to maintain levels of service: Department of Liquor Control investigators; Department of Parks and Recreation Wailua Golf Course and beach park maintenance crews; Department of Public Works Building Division inspection staff, wastewater treatment facilities, KFD fire stations and lifeguard towers, KPD dispatch, cell block, Investigative Services Bureau and Patrol Services Bureau; and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
