The first event of the North Shore winter surf season commences its holding period, Thursday as the HIC Pro presented by Vans gets set to begin.
The HIC Pro is an $85,000, 4-Star ASP rated event.
The complete holding period is Oct. 28 through Nov. 10, leading right into the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. The event will be held on the best three days of surf.
The HIC Pro is the final chance for local surfers to qualify for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, and will also crown the ASP Hawai‘i regional champion of 2010.
There will be 112 surfers from six nations competing, states an event press release, including top Hawai‘i talent from around the state, such as defending champion Hank Gaskell, former champions Pancho Sullivan and Joel Centeio, as well as youngsters Clay Marzo, Keanu Asing and Kiron Jabour.
