HANAPEPE — Fiare Moe reigned as the Waimea High School homecoming queen during the festivities that culminated a week-long schedule of activities on the Westside.
Helping to lead the Menehune girls volleyball team to its Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation title as the prime setter for the team, Moe was joined by Kawai Pascua serving as Miss Menehune.
Cassandra Owen, an award-winning member of the Waimea cheer squad, could not resist the urge to throw up her arms in jubilation during her tour of the Hanapepe Stadium at halftime, holding her composure as Miss Football.
Bronte Acosta, juggling between the cheer squad the and Menehune girls bowling team during the KIF fall season, had her cheerleader megaphone next to her side as Miss School Spirit.
Shelly Koerte, an award-winning pitcher for the Waimea High School girls softball team, was escorted by her dad, Michael Koerte, as Miss Victory.
Destiny Martin-Lazaro donned the banner of the Class of 2011, and Dondi Iannucci, the elder of two Iannucci sisters on the court, was escorted by her dad, Thomas, while younger sister Emily was escorted by her grandfather.
Dondi reigned as the representative of the Class of 2012 while Emily represented the class of 2014.
The sophomores, announced as the winners of the week’s pagentry, had the honor of being represented by Shandelle “Tita” Kapuniai.
The Menehune homecoming committee, in addition to extending its appreciation to the numerous people and organizations in the community for its homecoming celebration, said it would like to thank the 1959 KIF football champions “for being an inspiration to all Waimea High School students and showing everyone that the talented athletes of Waimea High School can accomplish big things.”
Saturday’s game between Waimea and Kaua‘i high schools will wrap up the KIF homecoming round. The junior varsity game kicks off at 12:30 p.m. followed by the varsity match starting around 3:30 p.m.
