Errol Lanning Sr.
Errol “Mala” Kealaonapua Lanning Sr. of Hanapepe died Sept. 29, 2010,, at the age of 66. Born on July 9, 1944, he retired from Hawai‘ian Telephone Company, and was a commercial fisherman and boat-builder.
He was preceded in death by parents Carl and Carrie Lanning, sister Sherri Mandez and brother Titus Swain.
He is survived by wife Bonnie (Silva) Labuguen-Lanning; sons: Keala (Kim) Lanning, Michael Lanning, and Troy Lanning; daughter Leah (Eric) Garcia; stepchildren Aaron Labuguen and Janessa Labuguen; grandchildren Eric John (Amber) Garcia, Christy (Josh) Peralta, Malia Garcia, Britnie Lanning, Kaela Lanning, Brandon Lanning, Bridgette Kali-Lanning, Kekoa Lanning, Tai Lanning, Kira Lanning, Duke Alderete-Labuguen; great-grandchildren Kaylie Peralta and Alyssa Garcia; sisters Lorraine I. Lanning, Collette (Teevita) Tovi, Carrie (Alfred) Carvalho, Leslie M. David and Vallory K. Lanning; and brothers Carl H. Lanning, Earl (Lynnette) Lanning and Theodore M. Lanning.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Port Allen Boat Club from 9 a.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Peter Pajela Sr.
Peter Difulo Pajela Sr. of Koloa died Oct. 11, 2010, at his residence at the age of 79. Born on May 13, 1931 in Waimea, he was a retired assistant security chief with Garden Island Security.
He was preceded in death by parents Santiago and Mary Pajela, brother Santiago Pajela Jr. and sisters Helen Danao and Magdalina Oligo.
He is survived by wife Joey A. Pajela; sons: Peter Pajela Jr., Anthony (Lisatte) Pajela and Joshua (Alice) Pajela; daughter: Ka‘iulani (Benny) France; grandchildren Ku‘ulei Manintin, Andrew, Leighton, Justin and Lanaya Pajela and Conner Kosen; great-granddaughters Meleana and Raiatea Ibaan-Manintin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Kekaha Kingdom Hall.
Visitation is at 10 a.m., and services will be held at 11 a.m. The scattering of ashes will be private. The family asks that flowers be omitted. Donations can be made to Kaua‘i Hospice. The family suggests aloha attire.

Shigeo Masukawa
Shigeo Masukawa of Lihu‘e died Oct. 10, 2010,, at Garden Island HealthCare at age 90. Born April 14, 1920, in Waimea, O‘ahu, he was a self-employed farmer and also worked with Pioneer Hi-Bred.
He is survived by wife Tsukiko Masukawa’ daughters Jeannette (Melvyn) Furuta of Honolulu and Gale Masukawa-Kashuba of Lihu‘e; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Asako Ebata of Koloa, Aiko Tottori of Aiea and Kimi Kawahara of San Mateo; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were private. Family request no koden.

Aylene Dow
Aylene M. Dow of Kapa‘a died Oct. 9, 2010,, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 90. Born Aug. 12, 1920, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband Meredith Dow.
She is survived by her son Phil (Kathie) Dow of Kapa‘a; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Kapa‘a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Family request casual attire and flowers be omitted.

Iwao Sukisaki
Iwao Sukisaki of ‘Ele‘ele died Oct. 10, 2010, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 92. Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Koloa, he was a surveyor with the County of Kaua‘i.
He is survived by wife Chiyono Sukisaki of ‘Ele‘ele; brother James Murashi Sukisaki of Koloa; sisters Shizue Nakata of Koloa and Patricia (Vernon) Scribner of Lawa‘i; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were private.
Arrangements were handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Atsushi Sahara
Atsushi “Archie” Sahara of Lihu‘e, Kaua‘i died Oct. 15, 2010, at age 82. Born Aug. 18, 1928, in Kapa‘a, he was an equipment installer with Hawai‘ian Tel.
He was preceded in death by wife Leilani Sahara.
He is survived by sons Wesley Sahara (Sharon) of Kaumakani, Hawai‘i, and Wally Sahara (Lisa) of Kailua-Kona, Hawai‘i; daughters Sheila Samuelson (Cliff) of Seattle, Wash., Wanda Sahara (Bob Westervelt) of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, and Sandra Magnani (James) of Kailua, Hawai‘i; five grandchildren; sisters Yoshiko Furuashi and Itsuyo Kashiwada, both of Honolulu, Hawai‘i; nieces nephew and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel. Casual attire is suggested.

Lucas Calves
Lucas “Sammy” Calves of Lihu‘e died Oct. 15, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 82. Born July 10, 1928, in Makaweli, he was a computer analyst with Olokele Sugar Company for 42 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents Estaciquo and Felicia Fabian Calves; sons Samuel Mark Calves Sr., Lucas John Calves; and grandson Samual Mark Calves Jr.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Simao Calves; daughters Peggy Ayers of Park Hills, Mont., and Salina Calves of Las Vegas, Nev.; son Matthew Calves of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held by the family.

John Blaine Sr.
John “JB” Blaine Sr. of Kapa‘a died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 13, 2010, at age 60. Born in Dover, N.J., on April 9, 1950, he retired from the State of Hawai‘i as a sergeant with Kaua‘i Community Correctional Center.
He is survived by his wife, Visitacion Blaine; son, John (Michelle Galvez) Blaine Jr.; daughter, Lisa Ann Blaine, all of Kapa‘a; three grandchildren; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, at St. Catherine’s Church with visitation from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 11 a.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Blaine family with arrangements.
Ofelia Erese
Ofelia Erese of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Oct. 15, 2010, at age 60. Born Jan. 2, 1950, in Brgy, Esperanza Vintar, Ilocs Norte, Phillipines, she was a laborer for ITC Water Management.
She was preceded in death by parents Pedro and Felomina Acoba; sister Edita Acoba and husband Jorge Erese.
She is survived by son James Erese; companion and caregiver Clyde Silva; step-children Jaylene (Ernest) Ramelb, Janel (Kevin) Moniz, Stacey (Stephanie) Erese, Jorge Jason (Karyn) Erese, Theresa (Esmer) Tomacder; sister-in-law Gracia (Tino) Wita, Amparo (Dencio) Feliciano, Adoration Erese, and Gloria Erese of the Phillipines; brother-in-law Jose (Catalina) Erese; half-sister Caridad Ariola of the Phillipines; grandchildren Erika, Tiffany and Michael Ramelb, Kylie, Sheldon and Jaylen Moniz, Bryston and Alan Erese, Eldon and Taylen Tomacder.
Services with be on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Immaculate Conception Church. Viewing will start at 9 a.m. with services to follow at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Lihu‘e Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested by the family.
