All that poi must have made a difference as Chad Delanoza and the Waimea Menehune clinched the KIF volleyball title following a seat-hanger five sets, Monday.
As the girls entered the arena, the cheerleaders held up a “We (heart) poi” sign which some of the girls tapped, and coach Chad definitely tapped softly for good luck.
Hats off to Avery Kano and Holly Shimazu for inviting the Waimea cheer squad to join them in a routine during one of the three-minute breaks between sets. Avery said he used to coach Holly when she was a Pop Warner cheerleader.
The gym was packed to overflowing, and even Dean Okayama made it to the game as did Paul and Millie Curtis after Paul’s soccer practice. Coach Bobby Kamakele said everything centered around Kaua‘i High School this past weekend, but this coming weekend, Waimea is poised to generate some excitement, starting with the KIF win in girls volleyball.
OK, time to go check out the KIF riflery shoot-off between Waimea and Kaua‘i.
