LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i’s renowned Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course is on target to reopen as planned on Dec. 16, unveiling its newly renovated greens, according to a press release.
The course has been closed since April 1 to undergo a comprehensive greens refurbishment project. The original Tifdwarf Bermuda grass has been removed and greens have been replanted with a Sea Shore Paspalum hybrid (Supreme) that has proven to be an optimum putting surface in Hawai‘i.
The eco-friendly Sea Shore Paspalum will require less fertilizer and almost no herbicides for maintenance, and it is a very drought tolerant grass.
“The new greens will provide a more consistent speed year-round,” says Craig Sasada, Po‘ipu Bay’s Director of Golf, “creating a better overall golf experience for our guests. We are very pleased with the progress of the renovation thus far and we’re looking forward to welcoming golfers back to Poipu Bay beginning December 16.”
In addition to the greens project, Po‘ipu Bay’s 21,000-square-foot Clubhouse is undergoing refurbishment, including locker room renovation, new carpeting, and repainting.
The restaurant at the Clubhouse is closed. However, Po‘ipu Bay’s award-winning Golf Shop remains open for business Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Golf Shop is closed on Sundays.
A Robert Trent Jones, Jr. design, Poipu Bay opened in 1991 and gained international recognition as home to the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 1994 through 2006.
