PUHI — J-Riley Louis of the Island School boys team fired a 238 (88-83-67) to lead the Voyagers to an 1,104-1,085 win over the Kaua‘i High School boys Wednesday.
But Brianne Hornos was true on her aim, finishing with a high of 248 (85-88-75) to lead the Kaua‘i High School girls to an 1,107-951 win over the Island School girls.
John Medeiros stepped up for a high 245 (81-85-79) to lead the Waimea boys to an 1,182-1,060 win over hosting Kapa‘a at the Kapa‘a athletic field range, the Menehune boys accumulating the best score of the four teams in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air riflery matches.
Amber Duldulao continued her high-point ways, ending the day with a 243 (90-79-74) to lead the Waimea girls to an 1,152-1,039 edge over Kapa‘a, which saw the return of Mary Walker plinking off a 224 (85-72-67) to lead the Warrior wahine.
Following Louis’ lead, all Voyager scoring marksmen were well within the 200-point mark, Louis having followed Daniel Miller (91-70-59-220), the golfer boasting the highest score of the day in the prone position at 91 points. Chad Andrade (85-76-55-216), Bronson Griep (87-79-50-216) and Ben Steuri (77-79-58-214) rounded out the Island School leaderboard.
Travis Navarro (82-83-75-240) replaced Keegan Tanaka (87-81-64-232) at the top for Kaua‘i, followed by Reyn Morioka (78-68-64-210), Sam Lang (78-74-51-203) and Kurt Noe (86-60-54-200).
Following Medeiros, Bryle Rivera (89-81-71-241), Austin Kunishige (85-75-77-237), Amlan Fujimura (87-86-61-234) and Kristopher Toma (85-77-63-225) led the Waimea boys, Toma getting the nod just a point ahead of Jaron Parongao (87-81-71-224).
Kenneth Villanueva (90-74-58-222) set the pace for the Kapa‘a boys, followed by Anthony Aiwohi (78-66-75-219), Adam Clark (82-81-52-215), Kalani Murakami (76-69-61-206) and Justin Uegawa (90-74-53-198).
Following Duldulao’s lead, Nikki Acoba (84-87-70-241), Angelica Tran (86-82-66-234), Kimberly Aguilar (73-79-66-218), and Kendra Ishida (90-71-55-216) accounted for the Waimea girls’ scoring.
With Walker setting the pace for Kapa‘a, Kristel Guino (78-77-56-211), Kaylyn Armstrong-Shiira (90-56-64-210), Oriana Huff (79-68-53-200) and Marissa Goo (79-70-45-194) accounted for the Warrior wahine scoring.
Hornos posted the best score of all the girls shooting Wednesday and was followed by Brittney Fernandes (86-89-57-232), Sara Koide (85-68-61-214), Adriana Medeiros (81-62-66-209) and Kristen Yamamotoya (81-73-50-204), the normally strong Red Raider having problems hitting targets during the kneeling phase.
Lindsey Duarte set the pace for Island School with her 209 (73-72-64) followed by Kelsey Long (77-66-51-194), Pi‘ilani Kali (91-54-42-187), Griffin Lord (78-64-44-186) and Michaela Sullivan (74-57-44-175).
KIF air riflery concludes its regular season Oct. 13, when Kaua‘i travels to the Hanapepe armory, hosted by Waimea, and Island School makes the trip to the Kapa‘a High School range. Both matches start at 3 p.m.
