LIHU‘E —Kaylin Kawamura scored four goals to lead the Kaua‘i Sparks to a 9-1 win over the Kaua‘i Extreme Strikers, Sunday in Kaua‘i Soccer Association action at the North Vidinha fields.
The Strikers, facing a 6-0 halftime deficit, came back with a better second half, allowing just three goals by the Sparks and scoring one of their own when Nygeria Williams found the net.
Following Kaylin, twin sister Kristin Kawamura added a goal along with Ashley Lucas, Kalia Shimabukuro, Lyndsie Kashima and Chassidy Cantona.
With the win, the Sparks hold a 2-0-0 record in the Under 12 age division and 6 points with two games played in the three-week old season.
The Extreme Strikers are still seeking their first win at 0-3.
The Westside Falcons U12, a 7-4 winner over the GIFC BU12, Sunday, also improves to 2-0-0 and six points with two games played.
The GIFC BU!2, already playing four games, drop to 2-1-1 and seven points.
KSC-Blazing Angels U12 enjoyed a bye, Sunday and is at 0-2-1 and a point in the KSA standings.
The Westside Falcons U10 took a 6-4 edge over Team Onipa‘a and improved to 3-0 on the season with 9 points while Team Onipa‘a suffered its first season loss, ending at 2-1 and 6 points in the standings.
That ties with the Kilauea Strikers, suffering its first 1-0 season loss at the hands of Team Chikara ’09, that win giving Chikara ’09 its first season win for a 1-2-0 standing and three points while the Strikers are 2-1-0 and 6 points.
Pohaku edged Team Chikara ’10, 2-0 for its first season win, tying Chikara ’09 at 1-2-0 and three points in the standings while Chikara ’10 is looking for its first win at 0-3.
The KSC-Blazing Angels split its double-header against the Westside Falcons in the Under 14 division.
In the opener, Westside Falcons took a 3-2 edge before dropping 5-1 in the nightcap.
That gives the Blazing Angels U14 a 2-1-2 record and 8 points, tying the GIFC BU14, a 2-0 winner over Hawaiian Heat, in the standings.
GIFC BU14 finish at 2-0-2 and eight points, its two tie games coming last week against the Blazing Angels in a double-header.
The Blazing Angels and GIFC BU14 lead that age group followed by the Westside Falcons (1-2-0) tied with Lokahi (1-1-0) at three points each. Hawaiian Heat is still seeking its first season win at 0-2.
Kevin Devitt, commissioner for KSA and coaching both GIFC teams, said with the adjustments in time for football leagues, turnout was less than normal for the KSA league with 14 teams covering the U10, U12 and U14 age groups.
There are six teams in the U10, five in the U12 and five in the U14 age bracket.
Games are normally played on Sundays starting at 11:30 a.m. at the North Vidinha fields.
The public is invited to view the competition at no charge and to help beat the heat, there have been snack wagons, including Masa’s Shave Ice parked at the fields for cold treats.
