Jacob Maka
Jacob Kaoahi “Kopa” Olanolan Maka of Ha‘ena died Sept. 13, 2010, at age 63 at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. Born on Dec. 26, 1946, in Ha‘ena, he was a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jacob Kaoahi Maka Jr.; sisters, Tiare Clifford Olanolan, Maydene Leina‘ala Olanolan Paik, Lynette DeLima and Bernie Mahuiki; brother, Sam Alapa‘i; and mother, Myra Gross.
He is survived by daughter Nani (Kolu) Valpoon; grandsons Cody and Joshua Mersberg; caregivers Shelby Ann, Ekolu, Kaulana, Kaimi and Keanu Yokotake; brothers, Kenneth (Sharon) Olanolan, Michael (Karen) Olanolan, Wendal (Annie) Olanolan, Dexter Chung, Walter Chung Jr., Wesley (Michell) Olanolan, Gregory (Beulah) Olanolan, Nathan (Gail) Olanolan, Ronald Olanolan and Nacacio Gabay; sisters, Vivian Olanolan, Sheila (Mackey) DeSilva, Debra (June) Manuel, Kathy Olanolan and Winona Hussey; brothers-in-law Abner DeLima, James Paik Jr. and Samson Mahuiki Sr.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunties.
Visitation at 9 a.m., services at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 2, at Wai‘oli Hui‘ia Church in Hanalei.

Philip Eliana Sr.
Philip Canencia Eliana Sr. of Hanama‘ulu died Aug. 21, 2010, at The Queen’s Medical Center on O‘ahu at age 89. Born Feb. 15, 1921, in Waipahu, O‘ahu, he retired as a heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by wife Trinidad Eliana and son Byron Eliana.
He is survived by three sons: Sterling (Ethelyn) Eliana of Guam, Ruben (Lita) Eliana of California and Philip (Marlene) Eliana Jr. of Kaua‘i; daughters Sheila Daluz of Colorado, Francine (Walter) Gatan of Guam and Trinette Hepa of Kaua‘i; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 9 p.m., Monday, Sept. 27, at the family home, 4227 Hanama‘ulu Rd., and again from 8 to 9:45 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Darin Arruda
Darin H. P. Arruda of Hilo died on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at the Hilo Medical Center at age 21. Born on Dec. 24, 1988, in Hilo, he was a warehouseman for Suisan Co. and was also a construction laborer.
He is survived by his father Darryl Arruda of Hilo; mother April Arruda of Hilo; brother Dustin Arruda of Hilo; companion Jordyn Onaga of Hilo; sister Kristy Arruda of Kaua‘i; sister Angela (Billy) Farias of Kaua‘i; maternal grandmother Setsue Furukado of Hilo; paternal grandparents Henry and Alice Arruda of Kaua‘i.
He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and one grand-nephew.
Friends may call at the Dodo Mortuary chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., where a celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m., followed by cremation.
The family suggests casual attire and requests flowers be omitted.

Cristeta Delos Santos
Cristeta Butac Delos Santos of Hanama‘ulu died at Straub Clinic & Hospital on Sept. 14, 2010, at the age of 79. She was born in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on July 7, 1931, and retired from the Westin Hotel.
Preceded in death by her husband, Benigno Delos Santos Sr., parents, Cirilo and Cirila Baloloy Butac, brother, Apolonio Butac, and sister, Policarpia Magarro, she is survived by two sons, Benigno “Ben” (Mevliha) Delos Santos Jr. of Bosnia and Billy Delos Santos of Kaua‘i; three daughters: Criscilia (Randall) Schaal of O‘ahu, Normalynn Delos Santos and Adeline “Mona” (Charlie) Balilea; brother Norberto Butac; sisters Isabel Manegdeg, Sirapia Luzano and Erminia Lagundino, all of the Philippines; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Feliciana Butac of Kaua‘i, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.

Tatsuo Tamura
Tatsuo “It” Tamura of Kilauea died Sept. 21, 2010 at Wilcox Hospital at the age of 94. Born July 23, 1916 in Kilauea, he was a retired senior panman with Kilauea Sugar Company.
Preceded in death by his daughter Frances Yamamoto, parents Yoshigoro and Misu Tamura, brothers Nobuyoshi Tamura, Tetsuo “Tika” Tamura and Charles Tamura; and sister Miyako Takenaka, he is survived by wife Itsuko Tamura; son Lane Tamura; daughters Vicky (Fred) Wong of Tennessee and Gwen Tamura of Kilauea; grandchildren Lori (John) Breit of Illinois, Jon (Jo) Wong of Nevada, Lyndsy Tamura of California, Lance Tamura and Levi Tamura of Kilauea; great-grandchildren Samantha Breit, Carolyn-Paige Breit, Gracie Wong; sisters Michie Yonekura of O‘ahu, Masayo Yoshihara and Chieko Ota of Kapa‘a; sisters-in-law Eleanor Tamura and Elaine Tamura; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held.

Bernardo Combes “Andoy” Tadeo of Kaumakani, died Sept. 15, 2010 at The Queens Medical Center on O‘ahu at the age of 81. Born on Jan. 14, 1928 in Alcala Pangasinan, Philippines, he was a self-employed farmer.
Preceded in death by Nicomedes Tadeo, he is survived by wife Pacita Tadeo; sons Billy (Baby) Tadeo, Mariano (Elvira) Tadeo, Mr. and Mrs. Joven Tadeo; daughters Meling (Celso) Cuaresma, Marivic (Gilberto) Corpuz, Lolita (Jamies) Moniz, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
