LIHU‘E — At Atherton Field, the HPU men’s soccer team defeated BYU-Hawai‘i, 3-0. Chance Bukoski scored two goals as HPU improved to 2-0 in the PacWest and 3-1 overall. BYUH dropped to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference.
Bukoski opened and closed the scoring with his conference-leading fifth and sixth goals. Richard Guffens played him a ball across the penalty area, which he put home in the 15th minute. Then, just before full time, he capped the scoring with a breakaway goal after receiving a through ball from George Fochive.
Kainoa Kahui scored his first and HPU’s second goal in the 21st minute off a corner kick from Linus Ekden.
Kay Flache posted two saves in net and recorded his second shutout of the season for HPU. Zackary Rasmussen posted four saves for BYUH before receiving a red card in the 84th minute for a hard foul.
Eric Lowe led the attack for the Seasiders with three shots.
HPU will have one week off before facing UH-Hilo. The match is set for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Atherton Field.
