LIHU‘E — Island School swept its series against Kapa‘a, while Kaua‘i and Waimea split their series, Wednesday at the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation air riflery matches.
The split keeps both Kaua‘i and Waimea with undefeated status as the Menehune boys edged out Kaua‘i by 53 points, 1,082-1,029.
On the girls side, Kaua‘i girls took advantage of a missing Menehune shooter to collect 1,087 points to Waimea’s 1,028, a difference of 59 points.
That tight edge overflowed to the Island School range where the Island School girls chipped out a 980-928 win over the Warrior wahine, a difference of 52 points.
Four of the five Island School boys crossed the 200-point threshold, compared with just two for Kapa‘a in the Voyagers’ 1,082-931 win over Kapa‘a men.
J-Riley Louis (85-78-69) and Logan Domingo (91-83-58) posted the best scores for the Island School boys at 232 each, Domingo posting the highest scores in the Prone and Kneeling positions, and Louis getting the highest Standing position score at the Island School range.
Following the leaders, Bronson Greip (83-74-64-221), Ben Steuri (76-78-47-201) and Steven Baptiste (88-71-37-196) rounded out the top five Voyager shooters.
Kapa‘a was led by Justin Uegawa (88-72-57) posting a 217, followed by Adam Clark (88-77-38-203), Kenneth Villanueva (72-58-54-184), Anthony Aiwohi (73-48-44-165) and Kalani Murakami (60-56-46-162).
Mary Walker of Kapa‘a (82-72-64) posted the highest girls score at the Island School range at 218, but she was the sole Warrior to break the 200-point mark compared with three girls from Island School marking 200-plus points.
Lindsey Duarte (82-66-65) set the pace for the Voyager ladies at 213, followed by Kelsey Long (68-73-66-207) and Pi‘ilani Kali (75-69-58-202). Griffin Lord (75-55-52-182) and Michaela Sullivan (64-59-53-176) rounded out the top five Island girls.
Following Walker, Kapa‘a saw Kaylyn Armstrong-Shiira (81-61-52-194), Marissa Goo (75-59-49-183), Oriana Huff (78-60-32-170) and Alison Yamamoto (81-29-53-163) make up the scoring five.
John Medeiros (86-70-65) and Austin Kunishige (86-69-66) paced the Waimea boys with 221 points each. That matched Kaua‘i’s Travis Navarro, top Red Raider shooter, who finished at 221 (90-68-63), Navarro getting 90 out of 100 points in the Prone position.
But the Menehune went on to finish with all five of their scorers above the 200-point mark, compared with just three for Kaua‘i.
Following Medeiros and Kunishige, Waimea got its marks from Amlan Fujimura (83-73-60-216), Benigno Baclig (80-72-60-212), and Bryle Rivera (80-71-61-212).
Following Navarro, Kaua‘i’s marks came from Reyn Morioka (75-70-74-219), Matthew Kawamura (77-64-64-205), Sam Lang (83-63-52-198) and Jonah Malapit (73-62-51-186).
Brianne Hornos posted the highest score of the day for the girls at the Kaua‘i High range, ending the day with a 230 (91-83-56) and leading five Red Raider girls to 200-plus performances. Hornos ended with the best score in the Prone position at 91 and the Kneeling position at 83.
She was followed by Kristyn Yamamotoya (87-77-59-223), Meghan Fujimoto (77-72-64-213), Adriana Medeiros (83-66-63-212), and Delissa Nobriga (70-67-72-209).
Amber Duldulao (89-67-61-217) set the pace for the Menehune followed by Rachel Umetsu (81-67-61-209), Jackie Taylor (87-72-45-204), Jasmine Cardenas (74-66-60-200), and Nikki Acoba (79-67-52-198).
Kaua‘i hosts Kapa‘a High School while Island School travels to Waimea next Wednesday, both matches scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
