Cade Halemanu pushed hard in the last 27 seconds of the third quarter to give the Kapa‘a Eagles a 1-yard touchdown against the Hanapepe Colts, Sunday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The touchdown got the Eagles on the board, but the Colts took the Junior Midget encounter behind the legs of Kaiolohia Perreira-Alquiza, who booted a 3-yard field goal in the second quarter, and a 7-yard touchdown run by Kahekili Kelekoma, who also added the point after.
Perreira-Alquiza broke the 0-0 stalemate with 1:08 remaining in the first half to give the Colts a 3-0 edge at the half.
But the Kapa‘a Eagles redeemed their Junior PeeWee loss when Junior Midget quarterback Chaz Pacleb passed for a touchdown and the Eagles’ Wylan Kamoku returned a punt 35 yards for the score in the Eagles’ 16-0 win over the Colts.
Caleb Neumann booted the point-after on both scores to ice the win in the game that was called in the second quarter when the roster dropped to below the 16-player minimum.
Earlier, Kekaha forfeited its Junior PeeWee match to the Lihu‘e Patriots when it could not field the minimum 16 players, Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
That set the stage for a Lihu‘e sweep as the Patriots’ Junior Midgets saw Kekoa Calcal run for two touchdowns and Keenan Kaluahine-Arroyo added a third-quarter score in their 20-0 win over Kekaha.
Aaron Renaud finished the day 1 for 3 in point-after boots, his effective one coming in the first quarter following Calcal’s first TD, a 1-yard charge at the 2:31 mark.
That gave Lihu‘e an 8-0 lead at the half, and following a defensive slugfest in the third quarter, Kaluahine-Arroyo broke out for a touchdown with just 41 ticks showing in the third.
Calcal iced the win early in the final period on a 30-yard run to paydirt at the 8:26 mark.
