LIHU‘E — The conference season got off to a strong start for the Sea Warriors as Hawai‘i Pacific swept its boys and girls soccer doubleheader against Chaminade, Tuesday in Honolulu.
Kapa‘a’s Chance Bukoski scored his third and fourth goals of the young season, his initial score proving to be the game winner in HPU’s 4-2 victory.
HPU trailed 2-1 at halftime, before George Fochive evened the match on a penalty kick in the 55th minute.
Bukoski then banged home the go-ahead score in the 78th minute off an assist from Jimmy Baggett.
He added the insurance goal in the 89th minute on an unassisted play.
HPU took an early 1-0 lead in the match on a Richard Guffens goal in the 5th minute, but Chaminade’s Michael Marrs scored two straight goals in the middle of the first half to give his team the lead at the break.
The HPU boys are now 2-1 on the season, 1-0 in conference play. Chaminade drops to 1-2, 0-1 in the PacWest.
The HPU girls then pitched a shutout in the day’s second match, topping Chaminade 4-0.
Meghan Fuller had the first two scores, both coming in the first half, before Mairead Bretney and KaUa Wall each found the net in the second half.
It was the first victory of the season for the HPU girls, who now sit at 1-3.
Chaminade is still looking for its first win, now 0-3.
