Harry Higashi
Harry Y. Higashi of Lihu‘e died on Sept. 13, 2010 at the age of 79 at his home. Born on June 14, 1931 on Kaua‘i, he worked at Avis Rent A Car and was a supervisor retired from Lihu‘e Plantation.
Preceded in death by his parents Sakichi and Kiku Higashi, son Boyd Higashi, grandson Lambert “Kela” Alapa‘i and brother Masayuki Higashi, he is survived by wife Patricia “Pat” Higashi of Lihu‘e; sons Harry Higashi Jr. of Hanama‘ulu, Buddy Higashi of Lihu‘e; daughters Lynn Lee of Honolulu, Gail (Bryan) Chun of Honolulu, Karen (Lambert) Alapa‘i of Anahola, Amanda Higashi of Honolulu; brother Yukio (Olinda) Higashi; sisters Edith Higashi and Peggy (Leslie) Yaka; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010 at Lihu‘e Hongwanji Mission from 3 p.m., where services will be held at 4 p.m.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Alfred Grace
Alfred “Uncle Al” Koa Grace, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 3, 2010 at Kona Community Hospital at age 72. Born March 25, 1938 in Honolulu, he was a retired personal chef, herbalist, natural healer and a strong active member of the Kupuna Counsel of Kona. He was also a private food distributor for Hawai‘i Food Bank in the Kealakehe area.
He is survived by brothers Charles (Ann) Grace of Honolulu and Henry (Marylynn) Grace of Honoka‘a; sisters Dianna Ching of Kailua-Kona, Rosemarie (Stanley) McKee of Colorado, Yvonne (Larry) Teves of Kaua‘i, Gracie Grace of Kaua‘i; hanai son Steven Ching of Kailua-Kona, and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Hale Halawai Memorial, where the service will begin at 11 a.m., with inurnment to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa.

Mildred Miyashiro
Mildred Masae Miyashiro died peacefully at her ‘Ele‘ele home, surrounded by family and friends, on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at the age of 81.
Born in ‘Ewa, O‘ahu, on Nov. 27, 1928, she was a devoted wife and mother, accomplished gardener and seamstress, active member of Kaua‘i Bible Church and dear friend to many.
She was preceded in death by her husband Yonemichi, parents Genrokuro and Matsu Tamashiro, brothers Stanley and Ernest and sister June Kobashigawa.
She is survived by children Daniel (Patricia) Miyashiro of Mililani, O‘ahu, Donna (Calvin) Umetsu of ‘Ele‘ele, Linda (Gary) Eger of Kihei, Maui, Wesley Miyashiro of Honolulu, and Glori (Jeffry) Kaluna of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Hilda Sickles of Denver, Colo., Grace (Paul) Tychsen of Seattle, Wash., and Carol (Harry) Koshi of Los Angeles, Calif.; brother Norman (Charlotte) Tamashiro of Las Vegas, Nevada, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Sept. 20 at Kaua‘i Bible Church in ‘Oma‘o, beginning at 3 p.m., with service to follow at 4 p.m.
Aloha attire is suggested by the family, which also requests that cut flowers from backyard gardens be brought to the service to adorn the sanctuary.
Private inurnment at Punchbowl will take place at a later date.

Lillian Tanabe
Lillian Hisako Tanabe of Lihu‘e died Sept. 11, 2010 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 80. Born May 26, 1929 in Anahola, she was a retired registered dietitian with Stanford Medical Research Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents Sotaro and Inayo Tanabe and brother George Tanabe, and is survived by brothers Lloyd Tanabe of Westminster, Calif., and Hideo Tanabe of Kailua, O‘ahu; sisters Akiko Oshima of Kapa‘a, Grace Furugen of Kahala, O‘ahu and Elaine Morita of Kapa‘a, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20 at the Kapa‘a Hongwanji Mission.
The family requests casual attire and that no koden be sent. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.

Brenda Martin
Brenda K.C. Martin of Kapa‘a died Sept. 13, 2010 at her home at the age of 45. Born on Oct. 18, 1964 in Hilo, she was a senior account clerk with the County of Kaua‘i.
She is survived by her husband, Edson; daughter Bree; parents Christian (Connie) Chang of Lihu‘e; brothers Sonny Chang, Koko Chang and Kevin Chang, all of Lihu‘e; sisters Verna (Donald “Moki”) Okami and Tanya (Ferdinand) Dosono, both of Lihu‘e; father-in-law Edward Martin; mother-in-law Wendalen Gonzalez; grandma Laura Martin; aunty Sylvia Bertleman; brother-in-law Tony Gonzalez; sister-in-law Dawn Bridgeman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 at Breath of Life in the Lihu‘e’s Rice Shopping Center, service at 10 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire.

Alice Cummings
Alice Marie Yeomans Cummings of Puhi died Aug. 23, 2010 at home at age 45. Born Feb. 20, 1965, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by husband Wilbert Cummings Sr. of Puhi; sons Kalani Cummings of Puhi; daughters Leiala Cummings of Puhi, Sheena Millare of Lihu‘e and Jocelynea Rivera of Hilo; step-sons Wilbert (Lulu) Cummings Jr. of Puhi, Darren (Kim) Cummings of Lihu‘e and Kurt Cummings of O‘ahu; parents Toni and James Burright of Orange County, Calif.; sister Cynthia Potter of Orange County, Calif.; brother Sean Gustin of Pahoa, Hawai‘i; five grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; numerous family and friends.
Service is Saturday, Sept. 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with visitation 8 to 9:45 a.m., Mass at 10 a.m. The family requests aloha attire.
