Kapa‘a girls, Kaua‘i boys top KIF bowling

LIHU‘E — Joanna Chang rolled the best girls’ game of the day, a 187 in Game 3, to lead Kapa‘a High School to a solid 10 points, capturing top honors in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation bowling, Thursday.

Ammon Hoopii-Akau rolled a 208 in Game 3, the day’s best for the boys, to lead the Kaua‘i boys to a sweep and 12 points.

The Kapa‘a girls, improving to a full point lead ahead of Kaua‘i, finished the day with two second place games, but captured first in Game 3 en route to getting the top pinfall at 2,202 and a first place for that total.

But it was not easy as Kaua‘i High School girls, taking a third place in Game 1 by just one pin, 691-692, to the Warriors, came back with a first finish by 11 pins in Game 2 (729) before settling for second place in Game 3 and second for its 2,187 pinfall on the day. That yielded eight points for the Red Raider girls.

Waimea girls, rolling behind a 190 from Lacie Montemayor, took first in Game 1 with a 729 pinfall before dropping to third in Games 2 and 3 for a 1,934 pinfall.

Chang (151-168-187) led the Warrior wahine along with Junelle Cacal (159-164-140), Angelika Questin (143-159-177) and Reggie McCabe (133-142-137).

Malia Garcia (200-164-126), Vea (135-160-180), Kelsey Cadiente (x-155-173) and Aniase Soltren (141-137- x) helped lead Kaua‘i.

Bronte Acosta (175-139-140), Montemayor (190-116-122), Kimberly Hoeckmann-Percival (157-110-133) led Waimea’s efforts.

John Quisel (179-x-140), Dylan Sone (x-170-x), Ho‘opii-Akau (96-132-208) and Kyle Balisacan (146-159-x) led the Kaua‘i boys who finished with a 2166 pinfall.

Randy Iloreta Jr. (162-174-137), Justin Uegawa (152-126-161) and Mason Huddy (120-164-99) paced the Warrior men who finished with a 2,008 pinfall.

Chase Ueno (144-164-148), Mark Angelo Abalos (80-99-156), Bryle Rivera (166-118-x) and Kalei Nakaya (89-x-77) led Waimea who finished with a 1,671 pinfall.

Bowling continues Thursday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center starting at 5 p.m.
