LIHU‘E — The Hawai‘i Pacific University Sea Warriors opened up their 2010 season in Waipahu on Saturday night, with forward Chance Bukoski, a Kapa‘a High School graduate leading the charge the same week he was named to the Preseason All-PacWest Men’s Soccer Team.
Bukoski, now beginning his junior season, has already made the All-PacWest First Team in his first two seasons with the program, so a preseason nod is not an unexpected accomplishment.
He finished second in the conference in both points and goals for the 2009 season, putting home 13 goals and adding three assists.
His timely finishes included seven game-winners, also second best in the PacWest.
Teammate Kainoa Kahui, a sophomore out of Kamehameha-O‘ahu, was also honored with the preseason distinction as one of the three defenders selected.
HPU has been projected to finish second in the conference, totaling 67 points in the initial preseason poll. Grand Canyon topped the projections with 76 points and five first-place votes.
Results from Saturday night’s opener against against California State University — East Bay were unavailable before press time.
