Roy Fisher
Roy Franklin “Yogi” Fisher of Wailua Homesteads died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 29, 2010, at age 77. Born Nov. 3, 1932, he was a self-employed masonry contractor.
He was preceded in death by wife Glenda Teves Fisher, sons Gary Fisher and Richard Fisher, and brother-in-law Jack Fine.
He is survived by seven children, Denise Fisher of West Newberry, Vt., Karen Fisher of Fallon, Neb., Steve Fisher of Dallas, Texas, Deana (Koa) Silva of ‘Oma‘o, Joe (Ann) Olah of Las Vegas, Bob (Paea) Olah Of Utah, Laurie (Jeff) Ruble of Utah; sister Lorraine Fine of Tulelake, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. at Kealia Cemetery, with burial to follow.
Arrangements are being handled by Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home .
Shoichi Takenaka
Shoichi “Sho” Takenaka of Kapa‘a died at his residence on Aug. 17, 2010, at age 92. Born in Kapa‘a on April 25, 1918, he was a retired house painter for Yoshimatsu Painting.
He was preceded in death by his wife Miyako Takenaka and daughter June Goda.
He is survived by his daughters Lorna (Wayne) Nishi of Kapa‘a and Diane (Glenn) Sato of Kapa‘a; son-in-law Gary Goda of Kane‘ohe; sisters Tokiko Tada and Betty (James) Kurihara of Lihu‘e; three grandchildren, Reina (Daniel) Kurisu, Kristi (Dustin) Moises and Scott Sato; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.

Paul Akana
Paul Lincoln Akana died on Aug. 28, 2010, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 72. Born Feb. 8, 1938, in Waimea, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.
He was preceded in death by parents Paul and Juliet Akana.
He is survived by brother Kaipo Akana; sisters Gwen Kawewehi and Harriet Char; stepchildren Leiko, Renee, Natalie, Jared and Macy; and six grandchildren.
A celebration of life is Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at the Waimea side of Waimea by the Sea “On Da Beach.”
A private burial will be held at a later date.
