Tillie Veniegas
Tillie Miral Veniegas of Lihu‘e died at her residence on Aug. 23, 2010 at the age of 88. Born on April 14, 1922 in the Philippines, she was a foster grandparent.
She was preceded in death by daughters Esther Uhrig and Pearl Lydia Veniegas. She is survived by sons Dennis (Ruth) Sevilla of California, Rudy (Yvonne) Lopez of ‘Ewa Beach, and Lelly (Maureen) Veniegas of O‘ahu; daughters Arlyn Story of Illinois, Sandra Sevilla of California, Lee (Richard) Argus, S.C., Janice (John) Leota of Kapa‘a and Noreen (Miles) Ajifu of Colorado; 24 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary Chapel in Koloa.
The family suggests casual or aloha attire. Flowers will be accepted, though lei are preferred.

Praxedes Duran
Praxedes Pastor Duran of Hanama‘ulu died at Garden Isle Health Care on Aug. 24, 2010 at the age of 93. She was born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on July 17, 1917, and was a dedicated homemaker.
Preceded in death by husband Francisco Duran and son Romulo Duran, she is survived by five children: Art (Shanna) Duran and Bessie Garbo, both of Honolulu; Isabelo (Elisa) Duran, Mely (Abelardo) Iloreta and Avelina (Herbert) Semana, all of Kapa‘a; daughter-in-law Corazon Duran of Hanama‘ulu; eight grandchildren: Ray (Phyllis) Duran, Jean (Craig) Hirata, Ruth (Paul) Huard, Roy (Dena) Duran, Rona (Francis) Sierra, Abigail Iloreta, Rosalie Semana, Sean Semana; eight great-grandchildren; sister Alejandra Pastor of the Philippines, and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Duran family with arrangements.
Roger Davidson
Roger Earl Davidson of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Aug. 22, 2010 at age 89. Born on Feb. 11, 1921 in Los Angeles, he was a retired engineer at Southern California Gas Company.
He is survived by children: Mike (Ellen) Davidson of Wyoming; Judith (Michael Wells) Davidson of Moloa‘a; and Jeff (Tracy) Davidson of Lihu‘e; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services are private.

Jose Gante
Jose R. Gante of Makaweli died on Aug. 29, 2010 at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home at the age of 99. Born Aug. 5, 1911 in the Philippines, he was a laborer with Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by wife Carmaleta Gante; daughters Josie (Dennis) Addington and Angela (Richard) Ramsey; sons Norman (Rosane) Gante and Cullen Gante; eight grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation at 9 a.m., service at 10 a.m. at the Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary chapel in Koloa, with burial to follow at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.

Benjamin Akau Sr.
Benjamin K. “Honey Boy” Kananiokalani Akau Sr. died on Aug. 26, 2010 at Castle Medical Center, O‘ahu at age 73. Born on Oct. 12, 1936 in Lahaina, Maui, he was a retired bus driver for Roberts Hawai‘i tour company.
Preceded in death by son Benjamin Akau Jr., brother Lluwelyn Akau, sisters Marie Aipolani and Judith Kealoha, he is survived by wife Debonair Akau; sons Glenn (Colette) Akau, Guy Akau and Ivan (Ku‘ulei) Akau; daughter Dolly Anna (Edwin) Garces; sister Faith Akau; sisters-in-law Yulian Akau of Hanama‘ulu and Sarah Akau of O‘ahu; brother-in-law John Aipolani of O‘ahu; brother Jordan Akau and numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life on Sept. 18, 2010 at the Koloa Church on Po‘ipu Road in Koloa, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Koloa Church Cemetery.

Wallace Tavares
Wallace Michael Tavares of O‘ahu and Kaua‘i died Aug. 22, 2010, on O‘ahu, at the age of 38. Born on Jan. 31, 1972, he was employed with Kahukai Landscaping.
Preceded in death by grandfather Joseph Tavares, he is survived by son Hunter Tavares; parents Wally and Dinah Aquino Tavares; brother Warren (Tasha) Tavares; paternal grandmother Angela Tavares; and maternal grandparents Chuck and Mildred Fernandez.
Celebration of life Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with Mass at 11 a.m.

Irenio Briones Asuncion died on Aug. 25, 2010, at his home at age 89.
Born July 3, 1921 in Santo Domingo, Philippines, he was a retired plantation worker, school bus driver and senior companion.
He is survived by his wife Basilia Asuncion of Lihu‘e; daughters Ayreen (Edgar) Valenzuela of Mililani, Aida (Glenn Kawamura) Okasaki of Lihu‘e; sons Ryan (Denise) Asuncion of Kapolei; Joven Asuncion of Honolulu; Jason Asuncion of Hanama‘ulu; grandchildren Josh Valenzuela and Tasha Valenzuela of Mililani; Lance Okasaki and Alayna Okasaki of Lihu‘e; Riley Asuncion and Emma Asuncion of Kapolei; Sharla Asuncion of O‘ahu; brother-in-law Domi (Carmelita) Velasco of Kapa‘a; numerous nephews and nieces.
