George Mukai had a “bruised” mango, but he does such a good job, the skin protected the inside and the mango was good all the way through.
Sandi Kato-Klutke (pineapple-guava jam?) spent her whole weekend at the fair, even volunteering her children to help at the Kaua‘i Grown booth. Kudos to Andy Melamed, Melissa McFerrin on a great job with the Kaua‘i Grown chefs’ cookoff and another round of kudos to Lenore Klass (she even won a blue ribbon!) on the Open Judging for pies!
Mamo Kaneshiro said the Lihu‘e Patriots’ malasadas were “melt in your mouth” good, and he wasn’t the only one.
Chef Mark Oyama was also quite busy, serving as head judge for the Chefs’ Cookoff, working with the Kaua‘i Community College culinary-arts students at the Kaua‘i Cattlemen’s Association booth, and making sure there was enough “melt in your mouth” malasada.
OK, time to go check out Kaua‘i Fire Department Chief Robert Westerman and the new Kealia fire station.
